It's actually super easy to do, especially with the current distros out there. Mint and Zorin are in my top lists (currently using Mint)
I'll be honest for years I bought hardware and then put a real OS on it (Linux) except for my work computers. Where I was forced to keep windows or God forbid, Mac. (At least on Windows. I have WSL) I miss my Mandrake. Used to use Ubuntu, but it has too many packaging systems.
Jan 23, 2026 17:13When Windows 11 was forcing broken updates and CoPilot, I switched back to Linux (had to use Windows for a couple of programs). Now I use Mint. It's fairly straightforward with everything and I haven't had any issues, and it doesn't force updates!
Yes I also like the fact that everything works off of apt. I don't have to worry about snaps and flat packs. And app images etc etc etc. just apt install package.
I do use *some* flatpaks, but meh, nothing has absolutely required it that I use, so apt has been my mainstay.
