- The decision to run Goodwin baffles me. He isn't local, not a household name and has said enough batshit things to motivate mobilisation against him. He's the sort of person you creep into the party at a GE, under the radar, not put prime position in a by-election. Did they not have a local BNOC?
- Matt Goodwin (as is already being demonstrated) makes for a bad by-election candidate. Unless you have a candidate with huge local support - Burnham, Galloway in very specific seats in the past - the main thing you want is not to energise your opponents/have massive, obvious areas to attack.
