- We are all mad here but plz don’t throw the rest of the journalists who will be left there, further demoralized, under the bus. They will keep doing good work until they, too are either fired or the place is closed.

- Someone needs to explain to the rich ppl that functioning societies make them money. Investing in a newspaper is like investing in the infrastructure of your city: year to year it doesn’t on its surface seem to make $$, but it’s critical for your ability to live and work.
- Not sure why this scene comes to mind…
- The Washington Post laid off so many people from so many different departments, they could literally start up their own rival news org and be competitive very quickly.
- Seems as though they have laid off their entire photography staff. Photojournalists don’t just take photos, we report, we pitch, we take photos while our lives and safety are under threat. We explore our neighborhoods, restaurants and sports with a creative eye. Photojournalists do it all.
- I can’t really overstate how insane this is.
- Democracy Dies.
- To everyone saying they could have or should work somewhere else, tell us where? Democracy Dies, indeed.
- No struggling newspaper ever saved itself by becoming a worse and less essential product. But what's happening today at the @washingtonpost.com is not just the latest devastating contraction of the news industry; it's the gutting of an American institution vital for a healthy society
- To be clear: a zoom call with the employee’s webcams disabled so they didn’t have to see any of their faces while they laid them off.
- I personally do not think some rich man should be able to buy an institution like this like a toy and then break it when he doesn’t want to play with it anymore. bsky.app/profile/benm...
