- We are all mad here but plz don’t throw the rest of the journalists who will be left there, further demoralized, under the bus. They will keep doing good work until they, too are either fired or the place is closed.

- Someone needs to explain to the rich ppl that functioning societies make them money. Investing in a newspaper is like investing in the infrastructure of your city: year to year it doesn’t on its surface seem to make $$, but it’s critical for your ability to live and work.
- Not sure why this scene comes to mind…
- The Washington Post laid off so many people from so many different departments, they could literally start up their own rival news org and be competitive very quickly.
- Reposted by Leah MillisWe at the @postguild.bsky.social are raising money for the hundreds of journalists the Post just laid off. This goes to the people who are hurting, not the Post. Or if you'd rather, go subscribe to an independent journalist. Support is hugely appreciated. www.gofundme.com/f/standing-t...
- Seems as though they have laid off their entire photography staff. Photojournalists don’t just take photos, we report, we pitch, we take photos while our lives and safety are under threat. We explore our neighborhoods, restaurants and sports with a creative eye. Photojournalists do it all.
- Reposted by Leah MillisI expected the cuts would be bad but I'm honestly stunned and sickened seeing how many great journalists the Washington Post just lost. People who nailed huge investigations, documented war zones, exposed horrific crimes, dropped all at once for failures they did not cause.
- Democracy Dies.
- Reposted by Leah MillisA staggering statement from former Washington Post editor Marty Baron: "This ranks among the darkest days in the history of one of the world's greatest news organizations."
- To everyone saying they could have or should work somewhere else, tell us where? Democracy Dies, indeed.
- No struggling newspaper ever saved itself by becoming a worse and less essential product. But what's happening today at the @washingtonpost.com is not just the latest devastating contraction of the news industry; it's the gutting of an American institution vital for a healthy society
- To be clear: a zoom call with the employee’s webcams disabled so they didn’t have to see any of their faces while they laid them off.
- I personally do not think some rich man should be able to buy an institution like this like a toy and then break it when he doesn’t want to play with it anymore. bsky.app/profile/benm...
- Save the Post. Be proud of your legacy.
- Reposted by Leah MillisFor nearly a century, the @washingtonpost’s foreign correspondents have been on the ground for the world’s most pressing stories. Now, our desk is facing potential steep cuts. Washington needs us. The world needs us. If you read us and need us, please watch this video and share.
- Imagine a world in which one of the great journalistic institutions that has been doing tireless reporting on this subject, no longer exists. Someone buy WaPo. @patrioticmillionaires.org @mcuban.bsky.social @markhamillofficial.bsky.social
- @patrioticmillionaires.org this would be the most patriotic thing you could ever do. Secure your legacy forever, be part of saving one of our most important journalistic institutions.
- Now would be a great time for a billionaire to be part of the fight for democracy. Someone please buy it. Where’s @karaswisher.bsky.social at? No joke. People complain about media but this newspaper is still a deep source of the best journalism in the country. Killing it will be disastrous for all

- Reuters has found that one of the men ICE was looking for in Thao’s home, who has been pictured in a WANTED poster and mentioned repeatedly, recently today by ICE ERO acting exec assoc director Marcos Charles during a press conference is in prison in S. Minneapolis. www.reuters.com/legal/govern...
- UPDATE: We met ChongLy Thao, who goes by Scott, today along w his son, Chris. Scott told us about being taken, driven around til the agents figured out he was a U.S. citizen & not their alleged target, then dropped back off at home w no apology.Came back later and ICE was back, idling in the street.

- Reposted by Leah MillisPhoto by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.
- An incredible amount of teargas Wed evening after protesters and neighbors began to gather following reports of another shooting involving federal agents in Minneapolis. photo by @leahmillis.bsky.social
