- Yes it’s very good news :)
- Here we goooo. YLE is live tweeting. Follow Ed below.
- For the first time in my career, I can’t tell people to trust what the CDC website says. And that is an incredibly sad and devastating place for this country to be.

- Physicians need to have a plan if they aren’t going to be offering vaccines to their patients.
- The amazing Dr. Deb Houry— former and recently pushed out Deputy and Chief Medical Officer of CDC— is ready to join the public conversation. Follow her at @drdebhoury.bsky.social !!
- CDC employees standing up and walking out in light of the mass shootings, firings, and *waves hands in the air* everything else. #USAnotRFK Lets gooooo
- Four CDC buildings shot up. Employees under lockdown and in fear for hours. Public health is physically under attack, and the silence from the administration is deafening.

- thanks for the request! i’ll send this to my team!
- Annnnddddd ❌Thousands of Louisianans will lose healthcare. ❌33 LA hospitals are at risk of closing ❌Thousands of children won’t get food Seems like a real winner.

- Yes in 2016 after the Disneyland outbreak.
- A nutrition program that fights obesity in kids is cut. This isn't MAHA. This is the opposite of MAHA.
- There was an abrupt $11B cut to local/state public health (PH) infrastructure yesterday. I don't think people realize what this means: -Want an updated system to check your immunizations instead of digging through docs? PH no longer able to carry out upgrades to immunization information systems
-
View full threadThe narrative is that these rescissions are about C19 tests and vaccines and that’s just wrong. This $ are indeed being used for C19—used to address key vulnerabilities identified during the pandemic. But, PH is inherently crosscutting. Capacity in one area strengthens capacity across the board
- This is just the latest in a long pattern, including sidelining scientific advancements, cutting USDA programs that support healthy eating, canceling global cooperation so we are safer in the U.S., and abruptly future cohorts of public servants. This is not America first.
- -Want your mayor to save money by addressing the opioid epidemic? PH no longer able to carry out upgrades to disease surveillance and reporting -Want to know your blood test results faster? PH no longer able to carry out major laboratory renovations and modernization
- - Want to know if and how measles is spreading to protect your family? PH no longer able to perform wastewater testing - Want your grandma in a nursing home to live a long, prosperous life? PH has to discontinue infection control education for nursing homes.
- As we say in epidemiology, bugs have ears.

- Panhandle measles outbreak keeps a growin'. Official count (as of March 11) is 255 cases across 3 states. Oklahoma...welcome to the party. Like I said in the YLE yesterday, I think this is a gross estimation of the true size. Nonetheless, if you're fully vaccinated, you're very well protected.

- It’s been 10 years since the first measles death in a healthy child. In 2015, 28 yo from WA with immhnoduprrssion; 2003 75 yo in CA and 13 yo in IL. Not sure when 2 from the same outbreak happened. It’s been a while!
- West Texas measles outbreak latest count: 159 Looks to be slowing down. CDC sent out a response team this week, too, which will hopefully help even more.
- As of Feb 18, the U.S. is answering 1,800 fewer research questions to improve the quality of life and longevity of Americans. This is not America first. Source: github.com/dhoconno/rep...
- New admin claims to be the frontier of radical transparency—but in just 1 week, public health decisions are being hidden from view. Instead of strengthening transparency, Sec. Kennedy is rolling it back: 1. ACIP meeting (CDC’s vaccine advisors). Delayed = No transparency on vaccine policy decisions
- 2. VRBPAC meeting (FDA’s vaccine advisors). Cancelled = No transparency on vaccine safety, effectiveness, or formula selection. 3. Public comment on HHS decisions. Removed = No public input on how taxpayer $$ is spent
- This isn’t radical transparency—it’s the opposite. They are hiding, and it’s only been one week. What's next?
- Please forward this to scicomm people you know! As a scicommer myself, I know how incredibly scary it is to be in the arena right now. There is very real professional and personal risk. Scicommers are putting out their necks and deserve to be recognized and even celebrated in times of darkness.
- West Texas measles outbreak update: Now 145 cases total. Seems to be slowing down, but be careful coming to this conclusion. It's unclear whether it's from true containment or lack of reporting/cooperation. Just have to watch how this unfolds. Big thanks to public health workers on the front line!
- Sec. Kennedy, you're incorrect. This *is* an unusual year for measles. This year has already passed 8 out of the past 15 years' *annual* counts. And we are only 2.5 months into 2025. Rather than falsehoods, you should publicly state support for MMR. Today marks the first measles death in 10 years.

- Ugh you're right. Big mistake
- For those of you interested in following along- Here are the # of cases in West Texas outbreak over time. It's clearly growing quickly, but not as fast as it could be due to 75% of the population being vaccinated, (likely) behavior change, and the amazing work of public health workers on the ground.
- Measles isn’t just a rash. Sure it can be sometimes, but it can also lead to death. The 1st death has been recorded in West Texas outbreak. I commend the many parents coming forward now and getting their kids protected. It’s never too late to get a vaccine. apnews.com/article/meas...
- A press release from Hays County Health Dept (TX) re: possible measles exposure is incredible. I've never seen a more valiant effort to describe potential exposure locations. Look at this map! Making invisible work visible. Clearly and timely communicated to the public. More of this please.
- ACIP—the external CDC advisory committee for US vaccine policy—is not meeting next week, as scheduled. This is a big deal; Americans rely on up-to-date information about eff. and safety of vaccines to make evidence-based decisions. We don’t know motivation, but this is why I’m getting nervous…
-
View full thread4. A standing meeting has never been delayed, despite being through many presidential transitions 5. Flu vaccine campaign was canceled last week 6. The CDC calculator for Americans to determine what vaccines they need when is now offline.
- This just may be a line of incompetence and disorganization. Or it’s buying time to completely change ACIP, which would be a grave danger. We’ll see how this plays out, but not liking it.
- 1. This is RFK Jrs first week as HHS sec, who has a long history of anti-vax views. 2. HHS says the ACIP meeting delay is to allow for public comment. This *is* required by law. But HHS has had since Feb 3 to open for public comment. It’s still not open.
- 3. Even though ACIP members publish their COI very publicly and clearly disclose before each meeting, RFK Jr is requesting more www.politico.com/news/2025/02...
- Honored to be on PBS NewsHour tonight to talk bird flu, especially the negative implications of cutting the federal workforce. They are Americans’ eyes and ears for biosecurity and health. Watch here: www.pbs.org/newshour/sho...

- Great idea! Will add it to the list
- As someone who’s walked past protests *against* CDC at campus a number of times, this makes my heart full. Big protest in *support* of CDC ❤️ More of this please. Your front line workers need it.
