- I got this today as well! We manifested it!
- It’s 4 years since we lost my wonderful dad, and as he was and I remain a silly creature, I thought I’d share something silly that touched me. When I was a teen I bought back this King Ghidorah toy for him from a trip to San Fransisco.
-
View full threadBonus blurry picture of dad with mic and keys being very sensible in a Tams & Coope gig (just before a paper-tearing solo)
- This was the choice. Tropical hoppy thing, music based name, gorgeous can (got cool texture and spot UV stuff going on). He’d be into it.
- I took it home with me after he’d gone, made a new mic bobble to replace the one that had gone missing over the years, and now it live in my office, along with my own mic and keyboard.
- Still miss you, Dad. Gonna go look for a nice beer to raise to you in a bit. Wish you could be here to hear it, but keeping singing anyway.
- I don’t think he knew what it was (I barely did) but a keys playing AND singing dragon made me think of him too much not to get it for him. As the years passed and I grew up, I always assumed he had gotten rid of it…
- because why keep silly merch of a fandom you don’t even know? But at the end I spotted it was on the bookshelves in his room. He’d kept it over 20 years.

- Them!! Also this pose is so nice!
- Once more remembering the time many years ago an American mom emailed me to ask how her child could dress as me for Halloween. I’m still sad I can’t find the emails any more (she sent a photo of the result!) It is extra funny to me because here in the uk we only really do costumes of spooky things.

- It was so cute, it makes me very happy :)

- I didn’t have as set an avatar at the time, so real me XD
- Also also the lovely @jamesfagan.bsky.social invited me to have a little chat on today’s Thank Goodness It’s Folk and share a first play of the single! It’s up on mix cloud for you to listen here www.mixcloud.com/Jimbobfagan/...
- Hello lovely people! To celebrate spooky day, Arbrevyn have released a terrifying* first single from our album ahead of its launch on the 16th Nov. Get those dancing skeletons ready cause it’s time for some JIGS arbrevyn.bandcamp.com/track/bounci... *if you are scared of cute bouncy folk tunes
- Feeling deeply weird about the Affinity announcement. Free, all in one app instead of three and they don’t train on your stuff, all good. Bringing in Canva’s Gen AI stuff ehhhhhhhh. Apparently you can hide the button and the AI is paywalled but it leaves a bad taste.
- It feels like mostly a play to undercut Adobe to be honest. An absolutely knives out manoeuvre.
- The Arbrevyn stuff has been the first album I’ve laid out in a fully Affinity+Procreate workflow and it’s been really nice. Please don’t mess up a good thing Canva

- They did at least explicitly say they don’t train on your work, and you can hide the AI stuff but yeahhhh, saddening
- It’s not long now till Not Long Now Till Dawn! Wanna come hear it in person? Can you get to the wonderful city of Sheffield on the 16th on November? Come hang out with us while we make harmonious noise at you! wegottickets.com/event/680574

- I just knew Karina would smash it with them (and she did)
- The finishing touches are going on the Arbrevyn album, so time for a preorder link and a sneaky cover reveal! ✨ arbrevyn.bandcamp.com/album/not-lo... Thank you so much everyone who has helped us get here. I can’t wait to share this music with you

- This whole thing is absolutely unhinged. Your audience is sensible professionals Affinity, why are you trying to hype build with mystery? I’ve never seen someone alienate their user base so hard so fast
- Litterally learning #affinity for my first album sleeve free of Adobe this week and I’m going to be so annoyed if this mysterious “Creative Freedom” is gonna be “we stuffed the thing you went to to get away from AI everywhere full of AI because Canva own us now”
- Like if it is the creative freedom to steal work from other creatives I am not interested.
- There are 2 violinist students next door, they are pretty diligent in their practice, our walls are not thick and I work from home. Sometimes they are both practicing at once. I feel like the protagonist of a scribbly greyscale indie horror where some monster is hunting me through a boarding school.

- Yeah I’ve been having to play music to stop it doing my head in, my brain is suuuuper wired to hear music so this hella distracting cause a bit of me is trying to parse relentless noodling XD
- Like at points it is quiet and chill but randomly through my day, [sudden frantic incomprehensible discordant violin soundtrack] I think I actually preferred the shouty rugby boys.
- Got a tiny palette recently and treated myself to some nice paints to put in it to give myself a low stakes place to do some art for myself. Test doodle to break in the book from last night and remind myself I don’t have to do complicated serious things here, and my bento from my lunch break today

- Check out the ones made by GoDraw on that front too, these are knockoffs of those and the originals look to have a higher build quality and the wells already have resin (I think) inlays on them, they look really nice.

- Oh damn looking at your watercolour work, extra extra thanks!

- Your cleaner colour stuff is nice too but man your chunky bw inks were from stuff like Bear were always SO GOOD
- Thanks! This was a replacement they sent me for one that warped and so I sealed the wells on this one with nail polish and treated myself to some tiny tubes of better quality paint than the ones that came with it. Never used professional quality watercolour before and I’m loving how well it layers!
- Leeds and Leeds adjacent folk! My fellow beloved Arbrevyn dorks and I have a gig on Monday evening at the Grove! Come listen! There will be harmonies and nonsense and good times and we’d love to share them with you 🌻 wegottickets.com/event/668786/
- Last night had a lot of chopping (my knife skills are ok but still mid enough that match sticking things still takes a while) but now I have a bunch more dishes for the fridge and freezer. I know I don’t HAVE to make OJ carrots into flowers but they are so cute when I do so can’t help myself.

- Cute enough I forgot I was meant to put an egg in here too XD
- A lot of my friends and loved ones are in Morris sides and they are all good folks. I find display routine dancing a bit too stressful but the call is getting stronger. That said, I’d freaking LOVE to build a Morris Beast some time…
- For @thequietus.com today, I wrote an essay about why we should stop scoffing about morris dancing, and instead view it as something radical, transgressive, and powerful enough to completely alter one's brain
- Realised I didn’t get around to sharing this. 18th birthday commission for a friend’s child, it was lovely to get to try and capture so many little elements of their past and personality.

- Thanks! Alex’s mum told me they didn’t like wearing shoes and they always wore odd socks, so it felt like a good way to work in the colours of some of the flags they identify with :)
- Trying to add more protein and fibre to my bento so I don’t crash as hard mid afternoon and oops I bought a new slightly bigger magewappa box to help me. A new shape to play with! Plus now I gotta make nice lunches or the new box will be sad.

- Thank you!
- I want to build a better relationship with food again without getting into the disordered eating SW planted in me. And that means adding good stuff (or replacing), listening to my body rather than restricting, feeling terrible and then going feral. And moving my body for the joy of it.
- Also I treated myself to some new sugar free coffee syrups because while I love actual good doNotMessWithThis coffee sometimes a girl wants a silly sweet treat ok fight meeee
