If you have the means, your donation is most welcome. If you don't, a kind thought and maybe spreading the word to others is support enough 💙
- Reposted by Kevin CollierMy story on Elon Musk cutting safeguards at xAI is on the front page of today's @washingtonpost.com. I’m also among 100’s of reporters laid off. I absolutely loved my job my brilliant coworkers & the thrill of reporting @ the center of forces upending the world: AI & Silicon Valley’s political power
- Reposted by Kevin Collieralways bears repeating that this is NOT a financial decision. jeff bezos is worth over 250 billion dollars. he can afford to lose many millions and never even notice it. this is, at its core, a political and personal decision by bezos to destroy the post
- Having been on the receiving end before, these calls really are so devastating. What an awful day for what was one of the great American newsrooms.
- Reposted by Kevin CollierI spoke with several VA staffers, most in Minneapolis, who say they've heard almost nothing from VA leadership after Alex Pretti was killed. They report low morale, blocked memorials and a feeling that the VA is downplaying it. New from me @taskandpurpose.com taskandpurpose.com/news/veteran...
- Remarkable and terrifying, though I would have framed this with less of a legal wonk lens. The federal government is using its muscle to access the Google and other tech accounts of its critics.
- A question to the privacy/surveillance nerds here: Who does good work evaluating and testing anti facial recognition clothing and gear?
- Reposted by Kevin Collier1/ BREAKING: Government documents reviewed by ProPublica identify Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa, 43, and Customs and Border Protection officer Raymundo Gutierrez, 35, as the two who fired their weapons during the deadly encounter with Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.
- Every journalist whose theat model includes this administration/the federal government needs to be aware of this. Signal for desktop + touch ID + they have a warrant = the feds can read any of your signal messages that haven't disappeared.
- The FBI was able to access Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson's Signal messages because she used Signal on her work laptop. The laptop accepted Touch ID for authentication, meaning the agents were allowed to require her to unlock it. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

- From one of the organizers: The Arizona Stop Flock Initiative is having a BYOB party in Sedona this Saturday to celebrate getting their city council to council to kill their contract for ALPR cameras.
- Reposted by Kevin CollierThe ADL found that Grok was the most anti-semitic chatbot in its testing -- and did its best to minimize that finding, because everyone is afraid of Elon. @miasato.bsky.social runs it down www.theverge.com/news/868925/...

- My 2c, obviously not legal advice but as a cyber reporter: This is true and it obviates a lot of overkill opsec advice I see posted. But it's still very generally good practice to chat over signal w disappearing messages on to minimize the chance of your convos being used against you.

- I think this is the first time I've ever received a phishing/scam email where the lure is "you too can get wealthy from the President of the United States of America's personal cryptocurrency."
- This story is so fascinating because it's genuinely unclear if it's the US engaging in cyberfuckery or a random ransomware attack with incredible timing or something else.
- Not to downplay David's scoop — it's a good one! — but feds have already been drastically their reducing their outreach to industry folks since Trump retook office and have already been way less present at cyber conferences. (Noem did speak at RSAC last year, though, controversially.)

- It's becoming a well established trope that this White House is unhealthily obsessed with content creation, but this is the first time I've seen them preemptively threaten a reporter with a mean tweet.

- I have full confidence that the two bylined reporters indeed heard this from U.S. officials, but to go ahead and uncritically report it as such when we all saw the video is just humiliating. What is happening at CBS, man.
- Speaking on Dell's behalf without checking w/him: The most annoying reply to a reporter publishing a story like this is people telling him they already knew. Great! You have good instincts that powerful bullshitters bullshit. You didn't have government documents proving it, which is what's important
- Reposted by Kevin CollierBREAKING: Hundreds of sensitive U.S. records obtained by WIRED undercut the Trump administration’s claims portraying Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua as a unified terrorist force invading the country. Intelligence agencies spent much of 2025 unsure TdA even functioned as an organization on U.S. soil.

- Reposted by Kevin CollierI have an op-ed in the NYT today about the Grok scandal, sharing my research from last year finding that legal risk hinders AI companies from making their models safer against CSAM - an echo of the years where white-hat hackers were chilled from good-faith research. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/12/o...
- New: Trio of Dem senators urge Apple and Google to enforce their own terms of service and ban X, Grok apps for their flood of nonconsensual sexual imagery. I've repeatedly asked both Apple and Google about this for three days. They're completely silent, seemingly hoping the question just goes away.

- As a reporter at a major media outlet who covers stuff like this, this is genuinely unacceptable and surprising from some outlets that should know better. I do wonder if some of it is simply because the reporters who do know what's up are off today.
- College football is the great American sport in part because there's a rich fandom culture of people into it here on Bluesky and yet the current game is literally sponsored every year by Lockheed Martin and you get commercials between possessions for their latest drones for the US military.
