As I reported last night: The DoJ fired the top national security prosecutor in the Eastern District of Virginia a few hours after MAGA activist Julie Kelly denounced him on X because he has been detailed to work for the deputy attorney general in the last administration.
Michael Ben’Ary was a DoJ lifer who worked his way up the career ranks. He was the lead prosecutor in a case the Trump administration has boasted about, against an accused terrorist alleged to have been involved in the 2021 suicide bombing in Afghanistan that killed 13 U.S. service members.
The Abbey Gate terrorist case is supposed to go trial in early December. Kash Patel and Pam Bondi made a point of going to the airport to meet the plane that brought the defendant to the U.S. Now the DoJ has fired the prosecutor for political reasons,
Oct 2, 2025 12:26He had been detailed to work for Deputy AG Lisa Monaco, who herself has been targeted by Kelly, and subsequently Trump. Monaco is now working for Microsoft.
The EDVA US Attorney's Office is one of the country's most important because it handles complex national security and terrorism cases. After the Comey case and now this, that office is in shambles.
Sources tell me the line prosecutors in that office are devastated by what has transpired. Their new leader, interim U.S. Attorney, Lindsey Halligan, has never prosecuted a case.
