- in any case I hope this is an eye opener for any folks who think having a lot of followers on social media (of any platform) must have it made. about 0.28% of my followers have bought and read my latest comic haha. sm is not NOTHING but it's also not that meaningful in the grand scheme of things
- I wish people would stop telling me to "just self publish" 🥲 I do! here's what the last comic I self published netted me: months of work for 120 reads and a tiny bit more than one month's rent. I'm grateful of course to everyone who did read it!! but it's not an answer. it's just a way to spend time

View full threadI'm not saying it can't be done, btw, but it can't *just* be done
- (also inbefore anybody tries to give me advice on pitching!--that's not the issue rn haha. I've been waiting 3 months for my publisher to hire a new managing editor, after waiting a year to get enough sales data from my most recent book that they think my next book will be worth it. nonsense stuff)
- What would you say is the biggest hurdle of self publishing? Is it getting the word out about the book? Distribution?
- distribution is huge. massive. all-encompassing. advance is HUGE. printing at wholesale instead of 50-100 at a time is important. warehousing your books when you live in a tiny apartment. and yeah, marketing may be minimal, but it's still better than posting "hey I made this" on bluesky haha
- at this point I've actually LOST money on making this comic haha. I'll make up for it printing it and selling it at cons. eventually
- her majesty tahoma is looking very stunning today
- Maybe don't joke about this? Maybe?

- dude, it's a bad fuckin joke, let it go
- is this a hypnogogic hallucination Muppet. yes
- my great grandmother, my Nana's mother, died a couple of years ago about 4 hours away from me. I never met her. her mental illness, which was probably the same as mine, took its toll on her and her family; she struggled without access to medication (it didn't exist yet) or treatment or empathy
