- Latest debacles at the State Library of Victoria: an arresting report by Gideon Haigh. Is the Board illegal as well as awful? Is the withdrawn 'restructure' proceeding by stealth (cultural vandalism, expertise-jettisoning, giant video screens in the Dome, etc)? www.cricketetal.com/p/whats-stil...
- It is not humanly possible to express - or perhaps even endure - how boring this headline & situation is.
- Reposted by Kaz CookeYou need a lot of confidence to rock a hairstyle like this 😆 A pink cockatoo at Kinchega National Park, New South Wales.
- 'Longevity' author, bro-caster & supplements flogger Dr Peter Attia is in the Epstein files. If you have his book 'Outlive' you might like to immediately take it out to the recycling bin, using tongs.
- Reposted by Kaz CookeA new statement from Epstein survivors: "Once again, survivors are having their names and identifying information exposed, while the men who abused us remain hidden and protected. That is outrageous."
- There is a thing called Grokipedia run by Ellenmusk that turned up in an online search - its information about the thing I'm researching was SO breathtakingly bad, I got the giggles. Absolutely baroque mincing of 100 year old PR & gossip. Relying on it would kill a career stone dead.
- IN THE SNOW. We must never forget the USA has an inspirational, proud, brave history of civil rights activism; all power to the people of Minnesota and Chicago. Incredible dedication.
- Sadly I think that's an AI video of George Will.
- Melania Trump film PR quotes: 'You'll see humour, you'll see grief, you'll see fashion"; 'It's not a documentary ... it's a creative experience'. The trailer music is Succession theme/breaking news alert mash-up. This is her corrupt, $75 million sunk-costs legacy. Imelda Marcos was but an amateur.
- Hey #BirdoftheDay fans, I think you'd love Sandy's photos. @sandyhorne.bsky.social and sandyhorne4093 on Insta.
- '90% majority rejects anti-trans busybodies'. 'Hampstead Women's Pond members support trans women yet again'. And maybe don't use a picture of beardy men in another pond entirely.
- Reposted by Kaz CookeStaff at a Twin Cities yarn store put together a pattern for a red knit “Melt the ICE” hat inspired by the Norwegian resistance. They thought they would attract 10 people to a weekly knit-along. They’ve sold 70,000 copies, raising more than $250k for immigrant aid groups.

- Reposted by Kaz CookeToday’s #BirdOfTheDay theme of “eye contact” has me immediately thinking of songbird banding sessions I’ve sat in on at Oak Hammock Marsh, Manitoba. Every captured bird gives its own variation of stink-eye while data is collected. This yellow warbler is saying it’s got places to be – dammit. #birds
- Not 1 woman author on the UK's Duff Cooper non-fiction prize shortlist. Top suggestions of history books to buy on Audible, Amazon, elsewhere online - heavily dominated by man authors. (Same with 'humour'). Yet the renowned Wolfsson History Prize had 4/6 women authors on its shortlist.
- Well, glad they cleared that up; kicking a car in America is punishable by being tackled & immobilised by 6 masked men in the street, beaten in the head with a tear-gas cannister and then shot 10 times at point-blank range.

- Australia needs a political party to serve the people in regional areas, to represent them on pressing issues of climate change, dangerous heat, food prices, water use, health & maternity care access, fire-fighting, arts budgets & transport issues. We could call it, I dunno, the Country Party?
- Looking forward to @nigella.bsky.social on the British Bake-Off. Paid commentators are struggling to get past 'phwoarr'; I'm keen for the expertise, vocabulary, warmth, and superior eyebrow communication that she'll bring.
- I'm writing about Agnes Zancig today, who had good hats and could totally read your mind.
- ICE will kill children, and tourists, and police. On the streets, in homes. Murdered a mum on the school run and a veterans hospital ICU nurse with no consequences. Now masked, armed, emboldened, racist, criminal idiot-rabble with kidnapping quotas. The USA is now a terror state: that was fast.
- AUKUS is so stupid it's painful. Phenomenal amounts of taxpayer money gambled on terrible odds with an increasingly chaotic, lawless, fascist America run by sullen fanatics and handmaidens. Money we need for maternity services, violence prevention, fire-fighting & the rest. Richard Marles's legacy.
- In which I have a look at AUKUS and tbh lose my shit at how dumb it is. @thepointau.bsky.social thepoint.com.au/opinions/260...
- I have been looking for my Good Pen for 10 minutes. It is in my hair. #writing
- 'A reason for hope'? For what? That if the baby looks brown when it's born ICE won't teargas THIS mother & child at a red light? So much American media looks thinking-free at the mo.

- Greetings from Melbourne Australia where it's 45 degrees celsius, and I'd like to scoop some snow into my bra and stand in an alpine river with only my eyes showing.
- Hurrah! Melissa Hagan's round-up of #menopause books came out recommending mine, amid the glut of celeb-meno-marketing-memoir titles. Word of mouth is key, so if you like & trust a book please recommend it on socials & to friends. Thanks to everyone who has! www.griffithreview.com/articles/men...

- My very favourite substack from Hanna. This 'small life' woman thinks, sees, feels, makes, and writes with big love. Put the kettle on and read her, for your soul. And I'd have a biscuit, if I were you. open.substack.com/pub/lagrosse...
- Rainbow lorikeets are shrieking at each other, eating bits of the flowers in the trees outside, and throwing other bits down to carpet the footpath, on this 25 degrees celsius, cloudless day. The sky is compliantly the exact shade of sky blue. Meanwhile on the other side of the world ...
- Amy Thunig-McGregor expresses what we need to hold onto, for succour and sanity: the goodness in real connections & feelings, our (chosen) families, our friends and communities, in the face of chaos, misinformation & feeling powerless. thepoint.com.au/opinions/260...
- I initially thought this was about Minnesota. What a world.

- Was the wife of a Macquarie Bank exec with no Library expertise appointed to the board of #StateLibraryVictoria last year, only now on the website? Did the Bank just invest in a start-up backed by SLV President Christine Christian? Did she find that company through her Library-backed start-up hub?

- Well, Ellie Violet Bramley and a quartet of Kardashianesques in windbreakers & their knickers may constitute a 'fashion moment' but I venture to predict that as a 'trend' during 'turbulent times' it may not exceed a zeptosecond. (Yes, v pleased with new word, thank yorrr).
- This NGV painting exquisitely restored by Carl Villis once hung in the UK mansion of Lady Cook (nee Tennessee Claflin, whose spooky, scandalous, spooky life is part of my next book.) Might have to go & see this Renaissance Lady & see if I can contact her spirit for any extra tea, or hair-do inspo.

- News Corp asks why all writers & other artists are endorsing any & all of Randa Abdel-Fattah's views. That's not it. Writers & other artists are standing by a principle: oppose political pressure to silence any artist because they are First Nations, Palestinian, Jewish, or anything else.
