There's something about Gary (Zootopia 2) that truly gives me the vibes of classic 2D cartoons and I love it! His face structure, the "stretchiness" of his expressions, the shape of the eyes and pupils... Even the way the model moves...
I really miss when Disney used to tailor the style of each movie to its story, theme, setting etc. I like Zootopia more than a LOT of other franchises; I don't... Think much of modern Disney generally and find the art "styles" tend to blend together far more than even similar styles done in 2D.
Jan 29, 2026 22:30For me at least, 3D has well and truly lost its luster from when it was first produced. When every movie is 3D, they all blend together and become visually boring. But Gary really stood out somehow. The character stayed with me when the movie was long over. I really do miss Walt's Disney overall.
It felt more about passion, soul and creativity (as well as marketing, don't get me wrong) but modern Disney just... There's several reasons for dislike it, let's just say that. It feels so much more "for profit" than ever. But I have to admit, I love learning about the world/lore of Zootopia~
I still to this day absolutely love Toy Story's concept. I'll say this again and again. It was fresh and new and the 3D really FIT the story, as a media alone it GAVE something to the story. Like I remember as a kid seeing the spin off Buzz Lightyear movie that was in 2D and actively... Disliking it
I've even lost love for Pixar as time goes by :( I still quite like Bugs Life and Monsters Inc, and I found the style of Turning Red visually pleasing.
Wanna talk about some great 3D movies? Sony Animation - I really like a lot of their movies! The Spiderverse movies, Mitchel & The Machines...
Man... I would LOVE to see Zootopia in 2D, maybe even classic 2D! ...anyway wow dunno why I wrote an essay on animated movies when I just wanted to talk about our lord and saviour Gary deSnake
