- Congratulations to Sophie who recently submitted her Master’s thesis! Sophie is a student from the Mathematics Department. She is interested in combining bioacoustics and deep learning, with a strong motivation to develop methods that are applicable to real-world biological research.
- During her master’s thesis, she was working on automatic segmentation and classification of ring-tailed lemur vocalizations from long, noisy audio recordings, leveraging Audio Foundation Models, achieving excellent results! @primatenzentrum.bsky.social @uni-goettingen.de @aecker.bsky.social
- Meet the Team! Yunus, from the DNB program at @uni-goettingen.de, is doing his lab rotation with us! He is investigating the vocal repertoire of alpaca! 🦙
- Conference time! I had the pleasure of presenting some of our latest work at the Göttingen Cognition Forum this week!
- Meet the Team! Nora is looking into dominance encoding in ring-tailed lemurs for her Bachelor's thesis. She is conducting playback experiments to determine whether there is an effect of dominance rank on lemur vocal response. @primatenzentrum.bsky.social @uni-goettingen.de
- Excited to be speaking at the @behaviour2025.bsky.social conference today! 🎤 I’ll be sharing our latest research on common marmoset food calls! 📍Kolkata, India @primatenzentrum.bsky.social @uzh-ch.bsky.social
- Meet the Team! Aishwarya is joining the team for her lab rotation, digging into social networks of ring-tailed lemurs. She’ll be mapping out lemur social groups to determine how individual relationships affect group dynamics and behaviour. @primatenzentrum.bsky.social @uni-goettingen.de
- Exciting news! My photo is featured as the cover image for this month’s issue of Methods in Ecology and Evolution! Read more about mammalian vocalisations here: doi.org/10.1111/2041...
- 🚨 Our August Issue is now out!🚨 This month's cover features a ring-tailed lemur producing a contact call to nearby conspecifics 🐒 🔊 Find out more and read the whole issue here 👇 buff.ly/4GCVwha
- The field season is in full swing! We're out collecting behavioural data on ring-tailed lemurs and enjoying a few photogenic moments along the way! #fieldwork #primatology #lemurs #animalBehaviour @primatenzentrum.bsky.social @kirindy.bsky.social
- 📢 Our new paper is out in @methodsinecoevol.bsky.social! A step toward more comparable approaches in bioacoustics! We tested how different acoustic feature extraction and classification methods affect caller ID classification accuracy. Read about it here: 🔗 shorturl.at/F31Pb
- 🔍 Summary: We analysed 16 mammalian datasets and found that using MFCCs or random forests produced the most consistent results across species/datasets. If you're working on acoustic ID in animals, these are great go-to methods. 🎁 Bonus: Our paper includes open code and ready-to-use functions!
- Meet the Team! @shibli23.bsky.social is an Applied Computer Science MSc student. He's building a Flask-based tool to integrate and synchronize multi-source animal data — combining GPS📍, accelerometer📈, acoustic🎙️, and video📹 streams to help biologists process various animal behaviour data with ease!
- Meet the Team! 🦙🎙️ Daniel Ariza Echeverri is a Bioinformatics student who joins us from @uni-goettingen.de for his MSc seminar project on vocal communication in alpacas! He’s developing a deep learning pipeline to automatically segment alpaca vocalizations from long-form audio recordings.
- Looking forward to taking part in 'Book a Scientist'! Excited to share my research and chat about animal behaviour and communication!
- 📢 Fully-funded PhD opportunity! Explore the links between social & communication networks in ring-tailed lemurs! Exciting fieldwork, interdisciplinary team, and innovative technologies! Apply now and join @primatenzentrum.bsky.social & @unigoettingen.bsky.social for this cutting-edge research!
