- Interested in waterfalls? My former PhD student, Sophie Rothman, (with support from NSF) made a fun outreach video about how waterfalls erode, check it out and please share widely: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVgr...

AGU opposes the dismantling of NOAA and calls on Congress to defend this critical agency. The future of climate science, public safety, and industry depends on it.

- Reposted by Joel ScheingrossI spoke with a hurricane modeler who was just fired from the branch of NOAA that keeps weather models running. He got a form letter like hundreds of others telling him he was losing his job in an hour. This bodes very poorly for American forecasting. Gift link: www.theatlantic.com/science/arch...

- Reposted by Joel ScheingrossThis is insane. If you wonder why some of us think the rule of law is about to fall, it's this. The U.S. Attorney for DC is not "President Trump's lawyer" and its job is not to "protect his leadership" nor prosecute people who "refuse to put America first".

- I was in Atlanta last weekend visiting friends who work for the CDC. I also learned the CDC is not participating in a WHO flu strain selection meeting (www.cidrap.umn.edu/influenza-va...), which means we'll have a less effective flu vaccine next year, and likely more flu deaths. It's scary.
- Anyone have climate change and/or mineral resources slide decks they can share with me? I'm giving lectures to future middle school teachers on climate change and mineral resources (with the goal of preparing these folks to better cover these issues when they start teaching).
