- Every day Mamdani comes out and is like "hey guys, I turned off the orphan-crushing machine. Literally just had to flip a switch. Took less than 5 minutes." After decades of dem leadership pissing and moaning and fundraising about how complex an issue it is and how difficult the process is etc

- I've told this story on ContrabandCamp but it's worth sharing for BHM because it's one of the greatest stories ever. A thread.

View full threadAnyway... there might be a reason why one speech reverberated through history. Now, I'm not making this claim myself, and it's difficult to verify. So I'll just quote the man directly: "This is the first instance in the history of the United States that a Black man addressed a white audience."
- I'm not saying ONE SPEECH is SOLELY responsible for 3 HBCUs, an anti-racist town, defeating a federal detention policy or creating one of our greatest poets All I'm saying is: If all this happened literally the FIRST TIME white people listened to Black people... Maybe we should try it again

- I'll just add, as someone who's been doing investigative reporting for decades, all publications doing real journalism (i.e., not a sockpuppet or Some Guy on the Internet)--they have MANY layers of editorial & legal review. Every major investigation I've done has had EVERY WORD checked many times.

- A weird (and bad imo) quirk of how blocking works here, if you don't already know. If you want to block someone you were following, unfollow them first.

- Might we tactfully point out that to obsess negatively with trans people when the richest and most powerful men in the world are trying to reverse centuries of humane progress and equality to acquire impunity for rape and murder shows a weird sense of priorities?

- More than a year in this has mostly gone as I feared, and in some ways has been worse. But there have been two contrasting surprises: -- The speed and breadth of institutional capitulation -- The courage, ferocity, and resolution of regular people Our strength isn't our institutions. It's us.

- Not sure if I ever shared the scale model Transit van on here. So I’ll do a bit. It’s basically very loosely based on the types of knackered vans me and mates had and used in the 80s and 90s to cart band gear about in. This is 1/24th scale.
