- Reposted by john sakon@scientificdiscovery.dev Hi, I am creating a new version of my free online MOOC, and would like to use this picture, of which you have the copyright. Is it ok if I put it in a slide?
- Reposted by john sakonEpstein is the most garish and harrowing manifestation of this but oligarchy makes life miserable in a thousand other ways. A core point of democracy is that no one should have so much power that they can make themselves everybody's problem. We should have a political party that believes that
- The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

- Reposted by john sakonThis is, in my opinion, not only the correct moral/ethical/legal position but also the correct political framing. Everyone can see the agency is out of control; everyone can see that it is constantly violating human rights. "Scrap it and start over" is the moderate position.

- Reposted by john sakonI’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports. And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.” Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

But as I've gotten older, these strips feel even more tender and insightful. My respect for him grew when I learned of his stance against merchandising. Such principles are almost unheard of today.

- Reposted by john sakonNew preprint from the lab: The fact that human brain activity can be measured at high res is *thrilling*. But often it's not spikes; it's "LFP". Sometimes LFP is 3x better for decoding (wow!). Sometimes it's a lot worse (sigh). Why? A mystery! In this thread, Catrina explains. Read her 🧵.
- 🚨 New preprint! Why do some insights from spikes translate to field potentials while others don't? In this paper we compare visual memory representations in spikes and LFPs to propose a general framework that answers this question. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... 🧵 (1/10) 🧠🟦 🧠💻
