- And here we go again. Some federal employees are starting to receive furlough notices as lawmakers in Washington weigh how to end the partial government shutdown that began over the weekend.
- Judge Ana Reyes in D.C. has temporarily blocked the Feb. 3 termination of TPS for Haitians. Without TPS, many Haitian immigrants in the U.S. could face deportation back to Haiti.
- New York Attorney General Letitia James said today that her office is starting a new effort to deploy trained staff to monitor and document federal immigration enforcement operations. The initiative, known as the Legal Observation Project, will track reports of major enforcement activity
- statewide and, when appropriate, assign trained observers to watch and record those actions as they happen. The announcement noted that these observers will gather details that may be relevant to future legal proceedings and are directed not to interfere with or obstruct enforcement efforts.
- A federal judge in Washington, D.C. (Judge Jia M. Cobb) issued a new order blocking DHS from enforcing a policy that required Members of Congress to give seven days’ advance notice before visiting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities.
- One step closer to defunding ICE. The House approved a spending bill to end the partial government shutdown and keep the Department of Homeland Security operating as Democrats and Trump continue negotiating limits on the administration’s immigration crackdown.
- Alert: ICE is drawing weapons on legal observers in Minneapolis.
- This isn’t new, but it has been happening actively over the last few hours.
- A Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Minneapolis is really a recognition of people power and it’s the first time a whole city has been put forward for the prize.
- It reflects a community that has organized, protested peacefully, supported one another, and refused to stay silent when human rights, and civil liberties were at risk. That kind of civic engagement is what nonviolent resistance looks like in practice.
- This isn’t about awards it’s about the idea that ordinary people, standing together, can push back against fear, defend their neighbors, and demand accountability from those in power. That’s how democratic values stay alive!
- This statement from our government is deeply disturbing. Homan said 158 people were arrested during the protests and added, “I said if the hateful rhetoric did not stop, there would be bloodshed and there was.”
- Fulton County officials asked a federal court to return 2020 election ballots that the FBI seized last week. The county is also requesting that the court unseal the affidavit the administration used to obtain approval for the search.
- youtube.com/watch?v=iplP... This administration will be held accountable one day for not following the law.
- What’s up with the government lawyer who told a federal judge in Minnesota on Tuesday that “the system sucks” and her “job sucks”? I have you covered at Law Dork:

- January 6 was the worst day of my life. But the threat of Donald Trump didn’t end when the mob left the Capitol. That’s why I’m running for Congress: to defend this country, with the full constitutional authority of Congress. I’m Harry Dunn. And I’m ready to finish the job.

- Alex Pretti wasn't killed by rhetoric, he was killed by two masked CBP agents shooting him 10 times in the back after they had disarmed and pepper sprayed him. Rhetoric didn't kill Renee Good either, a thug from ICE did that with a gun as she tried to avoid hurting him.

- Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning. Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.
- This is what embodying the American spirit looks like. Alex Pretti is America. Renee Good is America. Liam Ramos is America. We are all the disenfranchised, downtrodden, and despondent. They are us. H/t @jamestalarico.bsky.social
- Quote from Trump just minutes ago: "The Republicans should say, we should take over the voting in at least 15 places.... The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting." In modern history, there's never been a bigger threat to our Constitution and our way of life than and his enablers.
- Last night, GOP Senator Rand Paul went on national TV to flatly reject DHS's lies about the Pretti execution: "My advice to [DHS], if they're watching: If you come into [our hearing] and try to justify that [Pretti] was assaulting a police officer, that cannot be acceptable."
