- Many writers understand interiority but struggle applying it to their own story. Interiority= Thoughts Emotions Reactions Visceral responses Helps reader connect to POV character Shares details about plot & character Using combo of showing + telling helps reader understand what’s happening.

- Reposted by Jeni ChappelleWith heavy hearts, we are sad to share with the #RevPit community that we are losing one of our beloved editors and friends. Megan Records has been holding back the progression of terminal cancer for the last two years. She is now in hospice with her family at her side during her final days.
- Actual footage of me trembling in this weather.
- What they say: “regulate the nervous system” What I hear:
- Are you a neurodivergent writer? Sometimes editing can feel like looking for a forest when you’re stuck in the trees. It doesn’t have to. You need to work with your brain instead of against it. Find resources that work with your learning style! (aural=podcasts visual=videos, books, etc.)
- You already know how to write. That’s not the knowledge you need. What you need is to know how to apply what you know to your own query package. If you want to discover what to focus on to make your pages and query stand out, check out my Query Strategy Review: www.jenichappelleeditorial.com
- Writers: I’d love to hear yours, too. Drop them in the comments! Some of my favorites: The Thesaurus series by Becca Puglisi and Angela Ackerman Voice by James Scott Bell Structuring Your Novel by K.M. Weiland Story Genius by Lisa Cron Romancing the Beat by Gwen Hayes What are your favorites?
- Remember not to jump into changes without a plan. Check plot points against your beat sheet. Create a reverse outline. Note where there isn't external conflict/main plot isn't moving forward. Create a new outline/synopsis of how scenes need to be reworked. Link in bio for my newsletter.
- Getting ready to query or already querying and not quite sure what’s going wrong? Try my Query Strategy Review. Tailored for experienced writers who need focused, targeted advice on what’s working and what isn’t, and what to do next. www.jenichappelleeditorial.com/editing/ or link in bio.
- ⏩Looking for an editor? Click the link in my bio! Choosing an editor is a big decision. My recommendation is to look at 3 key things: 1. Editing style/do they show how to achieve YOUR vision? 2. Experience/how long & what kinds of authors? 3. Testimonials/Repeat clients?
- I don't recommend trying to get this right when drafting. But when you're revising, try highlighting all the "plot stuff" in one color and all the interiority in another color. It's a strong visual cue so you can see that balance and adjust accordingly. #writingcommunity #writerthreads #write
- When writers come to me and say they just can’t figure out the next step in writing their book, it’s often because they’re trying to take too big of a step! I try to break things down into small, actionable chunks, so you can keep moving forward. www.jenichappelleeditorial.com/contact/ #writing
- Reminder for every writer who needs it: It’s ok to be overwhelmed, stressed out, and unable to write. ❤️ #writingcommunity
- You’ve taken classes and workshops and read books, but struggle to apply what you’ve learned to your own work. CPs and beta readers can give you an unbiased view of your story, and I recommend a reverse outline to see gaps. Writing Reverse Outlines Like a Pro, on sale for $27. Link in bio.
- WRITERS: Different age categories need different amounts of reaction. MG needs the least, then adult, then YA. This is a matter of how many words you actually use to express these reactions. Because we still need to see those three kinds of reactions to each stimulus, regardless of age category.
- A reverse outline is one of the best tools you can use to get a bird’s-eye view of your story. Check out my Reverse Outline Workshop, now on sale for $27, and give yourself the tool you need to finish and edit your novel. Link in bio or www.jenichappelleeditorial.com. #writingcommunity
- Are you writing Romantasy? Are you ready for a professional edit? In 2026, I’m booking edits for the books I’m dying to read. So if you have a Romantasy with grumpy & sunshine, or rivals to lovers, or strong she or they MC? Let’s work together to shape your story! Link in bio. #writingcommunity
- I’m a full-time freelance editor and most of my clients are word-of-mouth. Currently booking edits with the kind of books I’d like to read, and, right now, that’s Romantasy! Grumpy and sunshine Rivals to lovers Smart she and they MCs Magic w/hints of real science. www.jenichappelleeditorial.com
- Every level (story level, scene level, even sentence level) should show conflict. Story: What needs to be done to reach the main goal and what's stopping MC? Scene: Every. Single. Scene. pushes the main plot forward. Sentence: microtension is your friend! #writingcommunity
- “When we talk about conflict in storytelling, it always comes down to opposing forces. Those forces can be from a variety of sources, but it’s always going to be 2 or more elements, whether they are people or monsters or forces of nature–that are competing.” Jeni Chappelle Story Chat Radio podcast

- Reposted by Jeni ChappelleThey say the final act is the hardest to survive. After a lot of blood, sweat, and eleventh-hour decisions, I’m beyond thrilled to announce that I’m now represented by @alexbrownwrites.bsky.social at Mad Woman Literary Agency! I can't wait to work on making Hotel Adair even more deadly.
- When you can’t figure out how to revise, it’s not because you’re not a good writer. It’s because it’s a different skill set. Use small, actionable steps. ie: Highlight action and reaction in different colors--see if they’re balanced. I have free resources as well as a workshop on my website.
- A synopsis requires a mindset shift--it summarizes your main plot. Stick to a nice, engaging narrative voice, not too “voicy.” Now write 1 paragraph for each big plot point, and include a sentence in each about how this affects your MC to show the character arc. Focus on 1 main plot and 1 MC.
- Sometimes a writer has done all the work—read the books, filled out the templates, taken the workshops—and is still just STUCK. It can help to hear the right questions to help filter all the information you’ve gathered and get unstuck. Book a consultation today. Link in bio
- Did you know I have FREE resources on my website? You can watch the Developmental Editing webinar or download my guide, Harness Your Inner Editor: Drafting 2.0. www.jenichappelleeditorial.com #writingtips
- Revising can be stressful...but it doesn't have to be. The key is to break your revisions up into small, actionable steps. I’ve got a workshop for that! Check out Writing Reverse Outlines Like a Pro: www.jenichappelleeditorial.com/reverse-outl... #writingcommunity
- Who else here is a recovering perfectionist? Give me a 🤚🏽 in the comments! As a recovering perfectionist, I’m trying hard to be ok with not doing ALL THE THINGS as part of my self-care. I know that in the long run, cutting back will allow me to recharge. How do you recharge? #writingcommunity
- A logline is essentially a one-line pitch of your story intended to describe the central plot and conflict and includes: protagonist, goal, conflict/antagonist. Example: A charismatic thief must steal a container of deadly chemicals to stop a corrupt agency from destroying her home.
- Ever written yourself into a corner and can’t get out? You aren’t alone! This is so common I created a separate service for it. I’ve helped hundreds of writers talk through plot holes, character arc, worldbuilding, and more. Flat fee of $200. Contact link in bio. I’ll read up to 2500 words.
- The blurb is the summary for the back cover/inside jacket to tell the reader what the story is about. It includes 3 elements: Hook: what makes your story unique? MC: Introduce them and tell the most important things about them Set up main conflict + focus on stakes--don't give away the end!
- It’s Small Business Caturday—er, Saturday! My Office Cat/Cat Boss Phil says, “Support Small Businesses.” I’m now booking for consultations. I’ll read 2500 words of your story and meet with you on Zoom for an hour. Phil’s presence at said consultation is optional. 😉 #writingcommunity
- The first chapter is a miniature model of the whole book. It tells readers what to expect and gets them interested enough to find out for themselves. When I read those first 10 pages, I look for: Voice, mood, and tone Plot Emotional Connection Mystery Orientation Which character do you start with?
- When you write a book, it’s a contract between a writer and reader. Always consider whether you’ll have a harmful impact upon your reader through outdated stereotypes or tropes, or unintentional mischaracterizations. Do your due diligence—research (!!) and get a good (human!) sensitivity reader.
- How do you begin and end a scene? You want to use a "get in late, get out early" philosophy so you're starting as close to the action as you can and the characters are going to connect, and what's happening should still make sense to your reader, but we're not going to end up with lots of set-up.
- If you want to make plot and character work together, Lisa Cron's Story Genius is essential reading. It helps you create a step-by-step blueprint for your story as well as a sense of urgency in each scene, and exercises to help you cut down on the number of revision passes you need. #writing
- Struggling through the revision process is completely normal. But you need to start with a PLAN. Start with the free resources on my website. After that, grab my Reverse Outline workshop (on sale for $27.) It’ll help you get a bird’s-eye view of your story. Website link in bio. #writingcommunity
- Some of my best clients know a lot about writing, but struggle to apply it to their own work. I call it 2nd Book Syndrome. I can talk you through it, as I do with them. I’ll read 2500 words and we’ll Zoom for an hour, discussing your story and how to apply what you know. Flat fee, link in bio.
- One of my favorite things to do is talk to writers. It’s no surprise…I got my start by chatting with writers in my indie bookstore. Book a 1-hour consultation (link in bio) and I’ll read your first 2500 words, meet you on Zoom for 1 hour, and help you get past your stuck points. #writingcommunity
- Have you hit a “stuck point” in your writing? You’ve done everything you can to fill a plot hole, a character gap, a scene flaw, but it’s still coming up for beta readers and critique partners? I can help! Book a consultation today at: www.jenichappelleeditorial.com/contact/ #writingcommunity
- I would like to request a Bridgerton-style romance series about scientists that includes Marie and Pierre Curie please and thank you

- It's definitely not easy to go right from writing to revising. It requires a shift--you have to become a reader instead of a writer. If you're a neurodivergent writer, sometimes that can feel impossible--but it's not! I have some resources on my website to help. www.jenichappelleeditorial.com
