- Every American needs to watch this:
- This site is one of the most beautiful things on the internet. Every time you load it, it loads a new letter written by someone who cares and who wants you to stick around. Please share, and please write a letter if you feel called to do so. www.reasonstostay.co.uk?utm_source=i...
- I’ve read letters this morning that have made me cry. Over 300,000 people have written a letter so far.

- Drastic change in Man Utd's fortunes since they ditched a leader who obstinately stuck to a plan his team didn't like and which was clearly not delivering results. May be a lesson there...

- Epstein is the most garish and harrowing manifestation of this but oligarchy makes life miserable in a thousand other ways. A core point of democracy is that no one should have so much power that they can make themselves everybody's problem. We should have a political party that believes that
- The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

- There’s maybe a few thousand trans kids in the Republic of Ireland, but each week Irish papers pay a bunch of columnists who dedicate a large part of their writing trying to make these kids lives absolutely miserable.
- I’m just a cis straight white middle aged man who happens to work in disinformation and I am *exhausted* by the efforts to normalise British transphobia in Ireland in the last half decade +++ Fuck knows how trans people put up with it..

- "Across the curriculum, writing is thinking." Shout it from the rooftops! I'm trying not to be end of days about it, but outsourcing thinking in all its guises is not a good thing. Agree with every bit of this.

- Given his appalling remarks about Sunak its absolutely shocking that Konstantin Kisin is anywhere near the mainstream let alone on #bbcqt
- Konstantin Kisin straight up lying on #bbcqt Douglas Alexander: “When Fraser Nelson put it to you that Rishi Sunak is absolutely english… you said “he’s a brown Hindu, how is he english?” Kisin: “No, that’s not what I said...”

- I read this, and I am freshly reminded that one of the most important insights in humanism is that this our one and only life.
- It is very sad. We are in an age of wonder unimaginable to not even our ancient ancestors, our recent ancestors... and that is what they choose to do with their one go at it.

- Delighted to have co-organised this special event for academics & journalists with @kingscollegelondon.bsky.social Policy Unit exploring data on Gen Z identity, beliefs, & practices. Spoiler alert: there’s no good evidence of a ‘religious revival’ among British youth & plenty pointing the other way

- It is simply not true, for instance, that one in two British young people go to church once a month, as opt-in polls tend to find. That’s three times as many as their parents! Hackett says this is likely due to ‘bogus respondents’: people who say they are young giving *any* answer to make money.

View full threadBy the measure of transparency alone, FON have done nothing wrong (they not only gave the sample size, they've added a specific caveat about it on their website)
- Whether the bpc should have a wider remit is a conversation that comes around... but policing methodology is a much bigger, more difficult and more controversial task (that would involve lawyers and costs!). The bpc is a tiny organisation that just does one small, good thing, very well (imo)

- The BPC is much less than people believe - it's sort of been a victim of its own success. It is a transparency pact - we all agree to follow transparency rules. It is not a quality mark in any way. Pollsters can be members of the BPC and be rubbish, so long as they are transparently rubbish.
