Joey Tidei
PhD candidate in the Beach and Oakes Labs at Loyola University Chicago. I like microscopes. I like neurons. I like bread.
- Reposted by Joey TideiSo excited to share the preprint with the bulk of my PhD work in the Beach @myosincity.bsky.social and Oakes @pwoakes.bsky.social Labs at Loyola University Chicago! We investigate the structure, recruitment, and function of septin networks around the nucleus. A thread: doi.org/10.64898/202...
- Reposted by Joey TideiTwo new 🔥pre-prints 🔥 TODAY by us & @pwoakes.bsky.social @myosincity.bsky.social change the way we think about the septin cytoskeleton Septins buffer mechanical stress on actin and membranes! Septins are like intermediate filaments www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

- I don't always get pretty, isolated, AND transfected primary neurons in culture, but when I do I take advantage.... Rat hippocampal neuron overexpressing ThymosinB4-mScarlet and imaged for 16hr on a @zeiss-microscopy.bsky.social LSM880 with Airyscan. #FluorescenceFriday #Microscopy
- Microtubules 🟢 protruding into the dynamic actin 🟣 network of a neuronal growth cone in DIV2 hippocampal neurons. @spirochrome.com SiR-Tubulin and SPY-FastActX working wonders on this #FluorescenceFriday
- Reposted by Joey TideiOur new preprint is out! Led by @stefanosala89.bsky.social sky.social we investigate the difference between molecular tension sensing and global tension on the focal adhesion. Follow along for a thread of our findings: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
- Reposted by Joey TideiA day ahead of #FluorescenceFriday, a (temporal) switch from the bulb to the cortex. 🟣 NeuN 🔵 AnkG 🔬🧠🧪
- Imaging neurons quickly for 3min typically won't give you huge cell-wide cytoskeletal events, but you do get to capture fun little tugs and loops in the soma and neurites (as well as whatever the hell is going on in the bottom right). Stain: @spirochrome.com SiR-Tubulin Happy #FlourescenceFriday!
- Did you wake up this morning and think "Huh, I'd love to learn more about how myosin 2 filaments assemble and their contribution to cell architecture and function"? What a coincidence, I've got just the review for you.
- Reposted by Joey TideiOur PhD student Louis Romette is optimizing long-term live-cell imaging. He just casually dropped this 65-hour movie of a growing neuron (div 3 to 6) with knocked-in actin 🔥🕶️ #realtimemicroscopy
- Reposted by Joey TideiTwo months left for FASEB Conference - Septins: Spatial regulators of cell biology Register now: events.faseb.org/event/septin... Come find out what these filaments do at the interface of the actin and microtubule cytoskeletons and cell membranes. You'll be hooked for life.
- Reposted by Joey TideiCongrats to the NeuroArt Grand Prize winners! 🥇 Totally Tubular –Joey Tidei @j-today.bsky.social 🥈 Neurosphere – Adam Soos 🥉 Unwelcome Guest – Danielle Beckman @daniellebeckman.bsky.social Thanks to all who shared their art! - Reposted by Joey TideiFor this #FluorescenceFriday I share another example of the possibilities of making art with imageJ processing. This is a 3 day long time-lapse of a growing slime mold, with 15 min growth waves color coded. the white things are oat flakes. I'll share the original video in comments #Sciart
- I've been lacking on #FluorescenceFriday the past month or two, but winning the annual MBF NeuroArt competition was a lovely surprise to end the week. Thank you @mbfbioscience.bsky.social for the recognition! neuroart.com/annual-grand...
- Almost forgot to mention.... @kwolbachia.bsky.social Citynight LUT strikes again!
- Zoomed in on the base of an axon looking at some funky actin dynamics for this #FluorescenceFriday
- Reposted by Joey Tidei#TIRFSIMThursday with a COS cell labeled for actin, clathrin and microtubules
- Reposted by Joey TideiIt'll be a slightly smaller crew than previous years but we'll still be at #cellbio24 #ASCB! If you like LIM proteins or septins come check out our posters:
- This place really is bumpin’… My first #FluorescenceFriday on Bluesky. Recycled, but a DIV4 rat hippocampal neuron expressing a probe for F-Actin and imaged on an LSM880 with Airyscan.
