- It’s International Women’s Day 2025 and gender inequality and health inequalities still have major consequences for neurodivergent women and girls. Whilst there have been improvements (e.g. the narrowing gap of numbers of men and women diagnosed), there is still a long way to go. 🧵
- Happy belated World Book Day! Let’s talk about why it is so important (a day late…) 📚 👉🏻 reading for pleasure is at an all-time low with only 1 in 3 children enjoying reading 👉🏻 reading enjoyment is at its lowest in nearly 20 years (National Literacy Trust)
- I loved recording the audiobook of #GirlUnmasked and I’m so happy that others like it too!! You can get it on Audible here: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0CL...

- I am so tired of seeing how both the education and healthcare system fails neurodivergent people over and over again.

- ‘How being diagnosed with autism at 16 saved my life’ in @TheSun today ✍🏻 As my book and the article talks about, it’s not just the diagnosis. It’s the understanding of myself that came with that, the understanding from others and the adjustments I made in my life.
- I started counselling again two weeks ago and that’s okay…sometimes we need space to talk and process things. Needing a bit of extra support is nothing to be ashamed of. 🩵

- People often ask me how the publishing process works, so I thought I’d delve into it a little as I reflect on the past few years and how I got to this point! #GirlUnmasked www.authenticallyemily.uk/blog/the-pub...

- Thinking about the time I had a full-blown meltdown in my year 7 maths class because I found my teacher so scary and I had left my protractor at home. I cried hysterically, hyperventilating. And now thinking about how, as an adult, when I forget things, no-one tells me off.
- When I read about how autistic people often don’t recognise authority (which is common!), I think about how I, another autistic person, am the complete opposite. I’ve always been terrified of authority & terrified of getting into trouble. Autism really is everything in extremes.
- Why is it okay for neurotypical people to watch football matches every weekend but if an autistic person wants to watch planes every weekend this is pathologised?
- Sunshine Support UK shared a quote from a school: ‘we don’t have an attendance policy. We ask you attend IF YOU CAN. If you can’t, it’s OK. We will work together to work through the barriers’. This is a mainstream school. With 98% whole school attendance. It can be done.

- Couldn’t not write something about the BBC Disclosure ‘Kids on the Psychiatric Ward’. I have just watched the programme and found it incredibly emotional and distressing, so a word of warning to anyone who may find it triggering. www.authenticallyemily.uk/blog/bbc-dis...
