- Reposted by Ingrid A. MedbyNow we’re here on Bluesky, we’re going to share some updates - projects, publications, media work, etc. - from colleagues from over the last few months as a bit of catch up…
- Really enjoyed this beautiful book, 'Circumpolar Connections: Creative #Indigenous Geographies of the #Arctic' (eds. Finbog, Kane, Riquet) - thanks to cultural geographies for the chance to review it: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
- Delighted to see this series of short reflections on the political geographies of #Arctic mapping online today! Huge thanks to my co-editors Berit Kristoffersen and Phil Steinberg, and contributors for wonderful, thought-provoking pieces: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
- Reposted by Ingrid A. MedbyWe are hiring! Fully tenured associate professorship in environmental history! We are looking for someone who can be a strong contributor to the history group, to a new #envhum related MA program (if all goes well), and to @greenhouseuis.net. #envhist
- Please consider signing this petition to oppose the unnecessary and detrimental proposed staff cuts at Newcastle University 🙏 Any and all support is hugely appreciated! www.change.org/p/end-unnece... #geosky #academicsky
- Reposted by Ingrid A. MedbySeeing yet more stories of unis moving to compulsory redundancy, with Geography colleagues (and of course others) at risk. Today, it's Newcastle Uni, a department that produces incredible scholarship with a vibrant culture. Sharing in solidarity x www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...

- Reposted by Ingrid A. MedbyVery much looking forward to our new MA Global Sustainable Futures starting in September, bringing core geography concepts (social justice, sustainability, power, etc) into conversation with debates about key global challenges - more info and how to apply here: www.ncl.ac.uk/postgraduate...
- Ran a taster session for our new MA Global Sustainable Futures (@newcastleuni.bsky.social), and asked students how they imagined their global sustainable future. And their responses were wonderful! Sharing a couple of drawings below - and sincerely hope some of their visions come true 🙏💫

- Look what just arrived!! 🥳 My book, "#Arctic State Identity", is actually real - and I even got it a week before it's officially out on 28th Jan (manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/9781526153906/), thanks to the amazing editorial team at @manchesterup.bsky.social 🙌
- Weekend trip to #Stockholm and (of course) visited this exhibition - "The #Arctic: While the Ice is Melting" - at the Nordiska Museet: www.nordiskamuseet.se/en/exhibitio... It's worth a visit - incl. insights from Indigenous Peoples, scientists, and media about (changing) life in the region. ❄️

- Well this is...worrying 😳
- Question for those of you who have published (academic) books: What kind of promotional activities did you do / would you recommend? #academicsky #academic
- So, I've been invited to give a seminar at Swansea Uni in February - very excited and honoured! And then I looked at getting there from NCL and feel....less excited 😬 Any travel advice, anyone? (according to Google Maps I can walk there in 5 days with no breaks, seems like a plausible option).

- A more questionable work-related decision: 1) Buying xmas chocolates for students attending my office hours... Ending up eating most of it myself 😅 (and frankly knowing this would probably happen)
- Two work-related decisions I'm very pleased with having made in the last few weeks: 1) Moving to Bluesky; 2) Muting work emails on phone after hours and weekends. Can highly recommend 💆♀️ (and should have figured out how much sooner tbh!)
