- The fact that AI boosters always go to “but art is EXPENSIVE” is telling. Most people started with crayons, lined school paper, cheap pencils, ballpoint pen, the back of junk mail and misprinted pages. Art supplies can be outrageous but you can make art with literal trash
- “I couldn’t afford a free ballpoint and a stack of dollar store paper, so I am paying a monthly fee for my AI service” is quite a take. They’re lazy. And lack the humility to accept their beginner status. It’s not the money, it’s their unpleasant personality

- Chuck Close is one of my favorite portraitists. He also has propopagnosia, or face blindness, so he created a way to make portraits composed of circles on a grid, so he doesn’t have to try to hold a likeness in his head. Disability is no reason not to create art, if you really want to.
- "I can't draw, but I can learn, and I want to tell a story using pictures." That was me in March of 2000. Nobody looked at early Schlock Mercenary and said "quit your day job." But in 2004 I *did* quit my day job.

- This whole 🧵 But also, if your argument is that you need to use generative AI because otherwise your art is “bad”, let me reassure you: The art you get from these models is also bad. Much, much worse, in fact. It carries the superficial signifiers of quality, but it is trash.

- Newsies that followed me: if you've seen me post a bunch of 'don't engage. Block and move on" posts, this is why. This is how blocking works here. It doesn't just hide an abuser's posts from you, it kills the whole chain. It basically cuts off trolls at the knees and cauterizes the wound. It's great
