- Holy founding era constitutionalism, this looks AMAZING. Anyone into originalism, state constitutions, or just the early Republic generally should check it out!
- Reposted by Anthony Sanders‘One officer told me that I "had no chance of returning to Minnesota" and that "the best thing for (me] is self-deportation." … She offered me $2600 to self-deport. I refused. I wanted to talk to my attorney. They didn't tell me the judge had already ordered my release and return to Minnesota.’

- Reposted by Anthony SandersThe number of detainees getting put on ICE flights at MSP has been relatively low the last few days. I believe this is not on account of ICE pulling back - they still outnumber local police in many towns - but on account of vulnerable people staying home, observer pressure, and lawyer organization.

If you have neither, pound the table. … Having neither and bringing the adage into the 21st century, [Noem] pounds X (f/k/a Twitter).”

- Yeah, all those Somalis who work at my local Walmart. Totally, the staff parking lot is full of Mercedes.
- Trump: "Minnesota is a mess. There's something in the water up there. I won the 3 three times but I got no credit for it. It's a rigged state. Really rigged badly w/ the Somalians, and the Somalians & the theft. We gotta get 'em out, most of them. 92% don't work. Many of them drive Mercedes-Benzes."
- Reposted by Anthony Sanders3d Cir. holds that habeas corpus petitions challenging immigration detention are "civil actions," so prevailing noncitizens may be entitled to attorneys' fees and costs under the Equal Access to Justice Act. Gonna be a loooooooooot of these. www2.ca3.uscourts.gov/opinarch/242...
- This phraseology reminds me of history writing in the manner of "it is said by some that, as a baby, Oliver Cromwell was kidnapped by a monkey."
- If you're a lawyer currently thinking of applying for a DOJ job you need to: 1: Write down your "red lines." Such as, assist with cases to seize ballot boxes or mail-in ballots, incarcerate peaceful protestors, etc. 2: Don't apply. A job where you need to do Step 1 is a bad job.
- Reposted by Anthony SandersImportant new piece in @theunpopulist.net "Congress and our courts have made it virtually impossible for Americans to hold federal officials and agencies legally responsible for harms they cause through negligence or abuse of power."

- I laughed. I was about to say that if it went the other way the middle box would say "the state must seize the means of production" but that's pretty much what the Administration's policy is anyway.

- This is excellent and hugely helpful in understanding what's up with ICE. I learned a lot.
- Curious why ICE and CBP agents are so brutal? Here's a useful explainer I wrote last week, before Saturday's outrageous murder, about how uniquely unsuited ICE and CBP are for this moment—and why they were so corruptible into Trump's own fascist secret police: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/ice-101-ho...
- "Despite some online speculation, there is as yet no evidence that Pretti’s gun was fired."
- Our analysis at @bellingcat.com on the killing of Alex Pretti breaks down the video evidence. He never reached for his gun. Agents sprayed/tackled him while his hands were up. He was disarmed before he was shot. The first shot came from an agent firing at him. www.bellingcat.com/news/2026/01...
- Reposted by Anthony SandersICE killing #AlexPretti should remind you of police killing #PhilandoCastille. Both men had concealed weapon permits, did not draw their guns, & were killed in Minn. These homicides are the price of unaccountable policing. These deaths are variations on the same fatal theme.
- "Don't worry, the second term can't be much worse than the first."
- Going on in 10 minutes.
- Reposted by Anthony SandersI’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. After Trump is gone, one of things I’m going to remember is the cowardice of the people who knew better but went along.
- Reposted by Anthony SandersPretti clearly did not brandish his gun. Which means the government is saying he was killed for legally exercising his right to carry. It’s as clear-cut a violation of the Second Amendment as I can possibly imagine. And we’re about to see the bulk of the gun rights crowd defend his murder.
- Including all Republic officials in MN. I haven't seen a single one publicly ask for ICE to leave. Privately they all hate this. It's total dereliction of duty.
- Reposted by Anthony SandersWe advocates of a robust individual right to bear arms worked for decades to get the law to recognize carry rights. There was never any intended asterisk about how the feds could gun you down on the street for carrying.
- Reposted by Anthony SandersALL MN PROTESTERS Absolutely nothing could be worse for our cause than violence and rioting. It is what ICE and Trump obviously want. Do not burn down our own city to protest invaders; they do not care; they will enjoy it. Do not do it. Do not let your fellow protesters do it.
- Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more, Men were deceivers ever, One foot in sea and one on shore, To one thing constant never: Then sigh not so, but let them go, And be you blithe and bonny, Converting all your sounds of woe Into Hey nonny, nonny.

- Reposted by Anthony SandersI’ve criticized Ilan for not doing source criticism. Now, he’s endorsing the Trump Administration’s bad historical methods. Not only are they just throwing random people’s opinions at the wall— long after the ratification of the 14th Amendment— but they’re citing white supremicist segregationists!
