- Reposted by Iain MacGregorIt's hilarious that they're pretending Tom Homan is some kind of voice of calm and reason. He looks and sounds like someone who would be hitting Dick Tracy's knees with a hammer

- HNY! Have the best 2026 possible.
- I think I was excited to be promised we'd watch ELF after Christmas dinner.
- If you want to feel you're in #CharlesDickens London, then watching the latest version of #AChristmasCarole in the atmosphere of Alexandra Palace is the place. Very well staged & Neil Morrissey excellent as Jacob Marley.
- 'As convoluted and deadly as the plot of a novel by John le Carre, but all too real' @dailymail.co.uk #BerlinWall Great pressie for the #ColdWar enthusiast in your life at Christmas time! Listen to my appearance about it on @therestishistory.bsky.social @coldwarpod.bsky.social
- He did need a bigger boat!
- The drive from Strontian to Lochaline in Morven is stunning. Now at the Ionian Cross at Kreil Church, overlooking the Sound of Mull.
- No highlands coo was injured (or decapitated) in the making of this hotel Christmas decoration.
- Since Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his royal standard here at #Glenfinnan, on the shores of Loch Shiel in 1745, only two other pretenders have been more embarrassing: Ally McLeod 'We'll win it!' at the '78 World Cup; & David Steel's 'Go home and prepare for government!'. #Hubris
- Walked from Kinlochleven in Lochaber to the top of the Devil's Staircase overlooking Glen Coe, and then back. Poured with rain but good fun.
- Beginning to feel a lot like Christmas ...
- Still one of my regular re-reads over Christmas. Characters are fascinating and the storyline surreal.
- Dark skies but what a view for a morning coffee.
- Beware of impeachment ...
- Two years since he sadly passed away. RIP Benjamin Zephaniah. A good man. Hugely enjoyed working with him on his memoir. What a life. Loved his cakes when signing copies, too. British culture is poorer without him.
- Ah, this photo. My dad always wanted to take me winter fishing on nearby Loch Sunart on #Ardnamurchan. We never caught anything, EVER, but the penny dropped many years later that he simply wanted to share time.
- London in winter is so mesmeric. #Thames #StPaulsCathedral
- Loved writing this. So many characters and legal history to capture.

- #OTD 6 August 1945 the world forever changed with the atomic destruction of #Hiroshima. Today there are over 12,500 nuclear warheads, with 9000+ operational. The threat is always there. Every second of the day. Remember that as we talk about what happened 80 years ago.
- #Hiroshima quickened the war's end and saved millions of lives. But it came at a price. My piece in @thespectator1828.bsky.social @scribnerbooks.bsky.social @littlebrown.bsky.social @WstoneTenterden @theresthistory.bsky.social www.spectator.co.uk/article/how-...

- #OTD 1945, the allies issue the #PotsdamDeclaration: "We call upon the government of Japan to proclaim now the unconditional surrender of all Japanese armed forces." the day before Gen Thomas Handy ordered the atomic bomb be used, “as soon as weather will permit visual bombing,”

- Reposted by Iain MacGregorThe Telegraph today carries a news story about someone paying £7.4 million for a handbag (Hello, Lady Bracknell!). And an opinion piece describing a wealth tax as a ‘moral abomination’. What a time to be alive.
- Another lovely audience at @WaterstonesRose. Super keen to ask questions & was introduced to the 'author wall'. Best thing of the evening? Spending a while afterwards simply chewing the fat with the staff about our industry - all great book people who work VERY hard.
- Never been to #Dunbar before. Loved it. A working, vibrant fishing town that loves its history (Oliver Cromwell especially!) Thank you @nightowl_books & @davegoodman for a lovely event this evening in a stunning setting.
