I know that Illinois hasn’t voted for a Republican for president since ‘88 but in the postwar era Illinois (at least looking at governors) went from a purple state to 7 straight GOP governor election wins. The Trump era has made the state pretty blue
the Republican Party will get worse before it gets worse, but God willing it will also get a whole lot smaller
The GOP has taken over almost all rural areas but the Dems have taken over the suburbs. The GOP here is almost entirely rural chuds
