The anti-TikTok/social media rhetoric being echoed across mainstream media and govt today reeks of the post-Crash anti-Communist sentiment that got its foothold in the ‘20s as labor realized capitalism wasn’t going to save them and embracing communist/socialist ideology was the way out of poverty.
The Red Scare was a reaction by corporations and the US govt to the idea that average Americans would a) rise up against them and b) lift themselves out of their station in life. It was a distraction to pit the impoverished against one another. Class warfare.
Nov 19, 2023 02:32Upton Sinclair ran for governor of California as a socialist in 1934. Both democrats and republicans conspired against him so he would lose because he was “too radical.” Hollywood filmed attack ads against him. He lost. This is still happening with progressive candidates today.
But now the Left—& the youth, who skew Left mostly—have a place to congregate online. They exchange ideas that go against the media’s pro-Israel rhetoric. They share their hatred for late stage capitalism & billionaires. THAT’s why Washington wants to ban it. It’s not about China. It’s about silence
