- Do not love how this industry has been shredded and remade into a teetering heap of gig work Freelancers fighting each other for a dwindling number of scraps, generational talent falling out of the ecosystem entirely, former staffers struggling while billionaires stuff their pockets A fucking mess

- Bezos isn't destroying the Washington Post because it isn't profitable. He's destroying the Washington Post because he's calculated that a robust free press threatens the ability of his class to warp society around their interests
- Please don't report this as a straightforward business story; it's a story about coercive social transformation being imposed by people so rich they've ceased to see the rest of us as legitimate stakeholders in our own lives

View full threadContext matters: Grabbing a child without their consent is not okay, but grabbing a child to get them out of the way of an oncoming car, or attacking dog, or ICE agent, is community care where overriding consent is justified. Blowing whistles to save lives is justified.
- Don't think I don't notice that you are NOWHERE when disabled people are asking for your help and you just like to trot us out when it is convenient.
- In particular, leveraging mental health conditions here in a very pointed way to prey on the superficial 'mental health awareness' floating around is especially vile when you consider that being kidnapped; fearing for your family; and experiencing systemic racism all cause extreme mental harm.
- Whistles are highly effective for both community defense and alerting people to the fact that there's an existential risk in their communities. If you are not centering the people who are fearing for their lives. families, and communities, I am not interested in whatever you have to say.
- This is really another iteration of 'screaming at people on social media' is praxis and it is extremely tiresome. Social media can be a powerful tool for building community and power. It can also be weaponized as a performative cudgel.

- A lot of wisdom being dropped here about deescalation. At artful protests I organized in the early 2010s, where people showed up expecting a family-friendly vibe, we sometimes had folks who were bloc'd up who I had to talk to. They always heard me out because we had mutual respect. They knew me.
