Just saw Graydon Carter at JFK and desperately wanted to tell him how formative Spy was for me, and how I still have every issue in a box under my bed, and to praise him for nailing Trump from the jump. But I’m a New Yorker and we don’t bug people waiting at a gate.
When trapped in this moral quandary I simply say, “oh, are you x? Just wanted to say I still have the entire run of SPY under my bed, thank you so much!” Then nod and look away, so they don’t have to make small talk.
It lets them know you think they rule and also are chill and aren’t going to dox
