A thing that is funny about the moral grandstanding by Repubs re: Christopher Columbus is that nobody knew or cared about him 100 years ago. His "holiday" is barely 50 years old and was pushed through by Italian-American lobby groups in response to...anti-immigrant prejudice.

Columbus, OH was so-named in 1812 not for Christopher Columbus, who is someone nobody knew or cared about in 1812, but rather for Seymour Columbus, a local chiropractor famed for his ability to manipulate the spine.
I can't tell if the original post is satire or not but I fear it's a genuine, real belief that no one knew or cared about Columbus.
Fascinating reading about Seymour Columbus. Led to a tourist ad campaign for the city "See More Columbus"
