- On #HMD we remember the victims of the Holocaust and actively choose to build a world that remembers. @theihra.bsky.social
- Reposted by Professor Gilly Carr OBEYesterday survivor Mala Tribich MBE spoke to Ruth-Anne Lenga & @gillycarr.bsky.social & 300+ online listeners about her life, before, during, &after the Holocaust. This was a joint HMD event between @uclholocaust.bsky.social @cam.ac.uk - the first of more partnerships in the future.
- My latest article is out in the journal 'Protection of Cultural Heritage' on the subject of Holocaust heritage and inauthenticity. It's open access, so just click here to read it. ph.pollub.pl/index.php/od...
- It was Luminaria at @stcatharines.bsky.social this evening: the choir sang carols while we ate mince pies and drank mulled wine. #Christmas #Cambridge #Catz
- The #CampdesMilles has a thought-provoking display of the work of #JoannSfar, who shows the common reactions of French Jews and Arabs to what is happening in the Israel and Gaza.
- I love this Provençal Christmas tradition: the entire hillside village and all its animals get to be part of the nativity scene. You can buy everything from cats to stone houses and wise men to drunk landlords! #Christmas #Provence #nativity #CulturalHeritage
- This week I’ve been at a #UNESCO workshop in Aix en Provence, at the former internment and transit camp of Camp des Milles, which has a very impressive heritage presentation dedicated to genocide prevention. 👏🏻👏🏻

- There’s a chap who could strain his wine through his moustache! Who knew the #Celts came as far as #Budapest! #Celticcustoms
- A real privilege to be at a live performance of the #Roma Auschwitz song in the middle of a concert by a Hungarian Roma band at the #Budapest #Holocaust centre last night. I’ve seen recordings before but never heard it live. Google it to hear this haunting song.

- The final #Stolpersteine in #Jersey is for Canon Clifford Cohu, rector of St Saviour and leader of a group who listened to and spread the #BBC news. He was murdered in #Zöchen camp by a guard, picked on for being British. 🙏 to @jerseyheritage.bsky.social for their support. 📷 Chris Addy & Ruth Mandel
- Final day of #Stolpersteine laying in #Jersey and last few stones. This one is laid for George Fox who stole food from the Germans to feed his family and paid for it with his life. He died in #Naumburg Prison. His niece and great nephew helped lay the stone.
- Not quite sure what is being emptied at St Brelade’s Bay in #Jersey!
- The #Jersey house of #surrealist artists Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore and the sea wall at the end of their garden built by slave labour during the German Occupation.
- Visited the graves of Lucy Schwob / Claude Cahun and Suzanne Malherbe / Marcel Moore in #Jersey today. And to the right, in dark pink granite: the grave of Aliens Officer Clifford Orange, who was assiduous in registering Jews in the island during the #Occupation.
- I went to see the #Stolpersteine stones laid last year for Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore, #Surrealist artists who lived in #Jersey from the 1930s and whose work is currently on show at the #Belvedere in #Vienna!
- Good to see coverage in the @jerseyeveningpost.com.web.brid.gy about #Stolpersteine laying: jerseyeveningpost.com/news/2025/09...
- @mattpope.bsky.social La Cotte is looking fine today!
- The final #Stolperstein today is for a real heroine in #Jersey. Louisa Gould was murdered in #Ravensbrück for the offence of sheltering a Russian slave labourer from a nearby camp. Her brother, Harold Le Druillenec, helped her and survived #Bergen-Belsen. He received a stone last year.
- Next here in #Jersey we have laid a #Stolpersteine to Edward Muels, whose family gave shelter to a German soldier who was a Jehovah’s Witness. The soldier had accidentally shot another soldier. Muels was deported to and died in a Nazi prison in Germany of ‘heart weakness’.
- The next #Stolpersteine in #Jersey are for Jean and Marcel Rossi, deported for refusing to work for the Germans and having Italian ancestry. They experienced #Gross-Rosen, #Blechhammer and #Hersbruck concentration camps. Marcel died on a forced march.
- Second #Stolpersteine in #Jersey today is for 17 year old James Houillebecq, who stole German weapons and hid them in his garden 💪🏻💪🏻. He died in #Neuengamme concentration camp.
- Third day of #Stolpersteine laying in #jersey. The nephew of John Nicolle, named after him, holds his stone. Nicolle was deported for spreading the BBC news and died in #Dortmund after an #RAF raid on his prison.
- I’ve done some late-night research and discovered that the last 2 #stolpersteine installed at the same address for Samuel Simon and William Marsh in #jersey were grandfather and grandson. As his grandfather was Jewish, it explains why the Germans threw the book at William. 📷 Chris Addy
- The last 2 #Stolpersteine in #Jersey today lived in the same house, related by marriage (?). William Marsh, who listened to the BBC news and Samuel Simon, who died of anxiety as a persecuted Jew.
- We pause to polish the #Jersey #Stolpersteine of Harold Le Druillenec, the only Brit alive (just about) at the liberation of #BergenBelsen. He testified at 3 war crimes trials and spoke extensively about his experiences.
- The next #Stolpersteine in #Jersey for Arthur Dimery, part of the St Saviour’s wireless group who spread the BBC news. He passed through various prisons and was transferred to Laufen civilian internment camp, where he died of a heart attack.
- Pat Fisher, daughter of Joe Tierney, holds his #Stolpersteine in #Jersey. 9 years ago the BBC made a documentary telling his story. Joe helped spread the BBC news and went to a range of camps, dying in a cattle truck in the closing days of the war near #Theresienstadt.
- The next #Stolpersteine laid in #Jersey today is for cinema projectionist Stanley Green. Two of his employees were caught with a radio but Stanley was deported to Buchenwald & they were sent to Jersey jail. His son Leslie got him transferred to #Laufen after many months. He survived.
- The third # Stolpersteine in #Jersey is for Jack Soyer, who had a very unusual trajectory. He was sent for forced labour in Paris (digging unexploded bombs), escaped, joined the resistance, and was shot by the Germans the day before liberation.
- The second #Stolpersteine in #Jersey is laid for Frederick Page. He was deported for listening to the radio and died in Naumburg Prison. His granddaughter read his story at the stone laying.
- A second day of #Stolpersteine in #Jersey. We start with Clarence and Peter Painter, who died in Gross-Rosen and Dora-Mittelbau camps respectively for the offence of having a weapon. The stone was laid near their house and near Jersey College for Girls. They read the men’s stories.
- The final #Stolpersteine laid today in #Jersey is for Emile ‘Joe’ Paisnel, survivor of Buchenwald, convicted for larceny. His granddaughter laid the stone.
- Penultimate #Stolpersteine of the day in #Jersey: this one is to Flavian Barbier, wrongly assumed to be the ringleader of a large demonstration against deportations by virtue of being the oldest of the group. He survived with PTSD and was put in the local asylum.
- Next in #Jersey is the #Stolpersteine for Clifford Queree who died in Naumburg prison in Germany after buying bread that turned out to have been stolen from the Germans. Who died a few days after his liberation.
- Next #Stolpersteine in #Jersey is for Leonce Ogier, who was deported with his son Richard, who had marked up a map of military fortifications. Ogier died of cancer and his young son was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease during their internment.
- Next up in #Jersey, Frankie Le Villio is honoured with a #Stolperstein stone and his cousin Stan is here to witness it. Frankie’s offence was military larceny. He was deported to #Alderney and then on to a variety of camps, including #Neuengamme. He was liberated from #Sandbostel camp.
- The 4th #Stolperstein in #Jersey is laid for June Sinclair, who does not survive in any archive but only in the testimony of her neighbour, former political prisoner Joe Mière. Her offence was to fight back against a sexual attack by a German soldier.
- As we pass, we pause to clean up the #Stolperstein for Joe Mière who received his stone last year.
- The 3rd #Stolpersteine is unveiled in #Jersey to Maurice Gould, one of the Jersey 21. His offence was attempting to escape from the island. This is Gerald, a friend of Peter Hassall who escaped with Maurice but survived.
- The second #Stolpersteine in #Jersey today is for Gerald Bird, survivor of #Buchenwald. His family never knew he was in this camp till his funeral. His offence? Singing an anti-German song and having the subversive lyrics.
- I’m in #Jersey this week for another round of #Stolpersteine laying. First up, Peter Bruce Johnson, who is missing from all archives but existed in the testimony of former political prisoner, Joe Miere.
- Was at #Lutonairport for the national testing of alarms through mobile phones. Was rather looking forward to something like 500 cuckoo clocks going off at once. Bit of an anti-climax among the airport bongs, musak, hubbub and general noise, dammit. 😖
