This is good (especially if you're the appellee/respondent).
If you've hit everything you need to hit, and there are no additional questions from the panel:
"If there are no further questions from the panel?" [beat] "Thank you very much for your time. We urge you to [relief sought]." [sit]
An exchange from CA5 oral arguments today:
Lawyer: Okay. I feel awkward walking away with some time, but I'm not going to waste your time.
Court: We feel grateful when you walk away.
Lawyer: I should have done it a little earlier.
Court: It's a sign of assurance. Thank you.
Feb 4, 2026 15:51I've done this more than once when a panel is telegraphing complete disinterest. Hit my points and get outta there.
Especially when there are three or four cases coming after mine. They have things to do, and if they've already decided mine, it's time to move out of the way.
