Free Speech Coalition
We are the 501(c)6 trade association that protects the rights & freedoms of the adult industry.
- FSC's @mikestabile.bsky.social says new laws taxing adult content function as a form of censorship. "A tax on speech limits that right to those who can afford it... Taxing them because of imagined harms is not only dangerous to our industry, it sets a dangerous precedent for government power."
- FSC's @mikestabile.bsky.social explains why the SCREEN Act, and bills like it, are a Trojan Horse for more widespread censorship.
- We couldn't do it without our members! Join us for these exclusive members-only events next Thursday, January 15th before and after the FSC Summit at XBIZ LA. RSVP before January 13th at freespeechcoalition.com/rsvp

- If you have not yet reported your banking discrimination story, do it now. Your voice has the power to shift the way the government (and the big banks) do business. www.freespeechcoalition.com/share-your-b...

- California’s new age-verification law, AB 1043, doesn’t apply to adult sites. It requires device makers and app stores to collect users’ ages and provide an API so apps—not websites—can restrict minors from “age-inappropriate” content. www.freespeechcoalition.com/blog/califor...
- AB 1043 does not apply to websites, meaning the technology is not currently available to adult sites who wish to block minors. While there is inherent privacy risk in all AV solutions, device-based solutions are more privacy preserving than the platform-based verification mandated in other states.
- California just became the latest state to require device-level age verification. Under AB 1043, users must verify their age when setting up a phone or downloading apps, forcing Apple & Google to build age-check systems into devices. avn.com/news/legal/c...

- Missouri’s proposed age verification rule will not take effect on August 30. The final rules were not published in time, so there’s no enforcement yet. The timeline remains unclear, and FSC will continue tracking the process closely. buff.ly/nNmh5eN

- FSC’s Montana case has been dismissed for lack of standing. When we first brought the case, state law allowed the Attorney General to enforce it, giving us legal standing to sue. After we filed suit, the legislature passed a new bill removing the AG from enforcement to block the litigation.
- The White House has issued an Executive Order limiting financial institutions' ability to use “reputational risk” or involvement in lawful industries in restricting financial services. This is welcome news for anyone who works in the industry and bad news for those who use debanking as censorship.

- FSC's @mikestabile.bsky.social spoke with Aftermath about the ongoing deplatforming of adult games on networks like Steam and Itch, and how censorship groups use bad publicity to get payment processors to do their dirty work. Debanking and deplatforming is not a new fight for us.
- Alabama says it will add a 10% tax to all adult content sales made by residents beginning Sept 1. Opponents call it unconstitutional attack on speech.
