- Bateleur is quite a strange name for a bird - but it does seperate them a bit from a rather boring etyological crowd. The name is French for 'street performer or acrobat'. In this way the name (not to mention the colour) reminds me of another theatrical bird name - Harlequin Duck.
- Bataleur eagles are classic African raptors with a look unlike any other of the world birds of prey. In flight in particular, their tail seems to be missing as they soar overhead. I spotted this pair last week in #TZ #birds
