- HECK YEAH. Brandon Gaut honored with the GSA mentorship award. Hard to imagine a better mentor. Scientifically I am where I am today in large part thanks to Brandon. But personally too -- he played a pivotal role in multiple major life milestones for my family. genestogenomes.org/congratulati...

- Almost 100 years of a barley common garden experiment involving reciprocal crossing showed a rapid decrease in genetic diversity with around 60% of progeny deriving from a single parent after 50 generations. @evogen.bsky.social Paper: doi.org/10.1126/science.adl0038 (24/34)
- The Salk Institute shared the sad news that Prof. Joanne Chory passed away yesterday due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. She was one of the most influential biologists of our time. And this is how I will remember Joanne, expertly guiding us on where to go. Joanne, we will miss you! ❤️
- Off to #SMBE2024!!! Looking forward to a week of great science (and 🌮!!!) I’ll be presenting poster #69 on Tues— stop by and say hi!
- Check out Josephs lab folks at #Botany2024! Sophie Buysse will be giving poster 145 showing how some commonly used strategies to improve scientific literacy may not be that effective.

- The division site localized protein TANGLED1 is recruited from the plant cytokinetic structure via both actin/myosin dependent and independent ways to the cell cortex. Great work from Aimee Uyehara and co-authors! journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/...
- We've found that the common chemical mutagen sodium azide produces a very specific pattern of mutations in a specific nucleotide context. The 2 nucleotide context limits the types of amino acid changes observed. We also find small indels are more abundant in treated lines. doi.org/10.1101/2024...
- Our new paper testing long-standing hypotheses on the genetic causes and genomic consequences of distyly breakdown is now out advance access in MBE academic.oup.com/mbe/advance-... Thanks to all coauthors! @juanitagutierrezv.bsky.social @panazerv.bsky.social @zopos.bsky.social
