Elmar Unnsteinsson
Philosopher at University College Dublin and University of Iceland
- New paper forthcoming in Nous by Dan Harris (@danielwharris.bsky.social) and myself! Check it out! I think there is something useful here for people working on all sorts of topics in philosophy and elsewhere, and we plan to expand further on this ourselves in future work.
- Elmar Unnsteinsson (@eunnsteins.bsky.social) and I have a new paper forthcoming in Noûs. "Genre and Conversation" We show how to generalize the classic pragmatic theories to conversational genres that aren't factual, cooperative, committal information exchanges. philpapers.org/rec/ELMGAC-2
- ... pretty trivial stuff, really...
- Are you an academic looking to relocate? Consider the Global Talent Ireland Scheme (expression of interest needed soon) - bonus: you get to find out whether you are a "Rising Star" or a "Research Leader" www.researchireland.ie/funding/glob... #philjobs
- That's a really interesting suggestion. Ireland might also be a useful outpost for this kind of thing?
- Universities need Anti-Application Offices, with people who try to convince us not to apply for things, so we can focus on teaching and research, which is what they are paying us to do anyway.
- Easy to fix this argument, probably just a typo. It should say "But Mr. Trump isn't a man," and the implied conclusion follows.
- Mind and Language published an exchange between Rachel Goodman and me. I learned a lot from doing this and Rachel's comments are great. Not so sure about my attempted responses, but maybe the distinction between identity and 'fregentity' will catch on? onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/14680017...
- If you don't click 'like' or 'recommend' on your own paper on PhilPapers I assume that you don't think it's good and that no one should read it. You've had many opportunities to like the paper, but you choose not to...
- Pushing the stone of reviewing for journals up the mountain always makes me wonder when and how I will die.
- 'Pamela' by TOTO (1988) is not as good as 'Pamela' by the Icelandic band Dúkkulísurnar (1984). Check it out. But you can now also read my responses to comments on my book, forthcoming in an Inquiry special issue. I'm really grateful to Mark, Jessica, and Eliot for their amazing contributions!
- I'm hiring a two-year postdoc in philosophy of language and mind, based at the University of Iceland. The postdoc will also be a Visiting Scholar at University College Dublin. Based on a grant Dan Harris and I received: philjobs.org/job/show/25898
- The Pensions Office just responded to an email I sent exactly two years ago. Even sillier, some payment I owe gathered compound interest in the meantime.
