- Reposted by Eric WuesthoffThis is how I feel, too. I think a large part of how we got here is that test-based K-12 education is so deeply flawed. There is almost no reading or writing compared to when I was in school. Then, when students hit college they've never practiced those skills, so of course turn to LLM's.
- This is just so incredibly sad to me. It's not just that people think they are clever for hacking their way through school without work. It's that they don't WANT to learn new things. They don't WANT to improve skills. They don't WANT EDUCATION. nymag.com/intelligence...

- Reposted by Eric Wuesthoff🧪 Tip: You have the right to contest a grant termination, even though NSF says you don't. 🧵 On Friday, NSF terminated 402 grants (per Musk's DOGE). The notification letters had one of the most egregious violations of fed regulations I've seen so far in these cases: "not subject to appeal"
- Here's a copy of an NSF grant termination notice that went out today. "NSF is issuing this termination to protect the interests of the government pursuant...on the basis that they no longer effectuate the program goals or agency priorities." Not subject to appeal. #HigherEd #AcademicSky

Mr. Mahdawi, a legal resident of the US, must be afforded due process under the law and immediately released from detention.

- Reposted by Eric WuesthoffThe NSF's flagship fellowship program typically gives offers to 2,000+ young scientists. This year, in the face of looming budget cuts, that number was halved: only 1,000 received an offer. Our story on what that means for the science talent pipeline: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

- Reposted by Eric WuesthoffFor almost 2 weeks, Badar Khan Suri was kept in a room without a bed & with TV blaring 21 hrs/day. He was given used underwear & red uniform "usually reserved" for "high security" detainees. Not allowed to spend more than 2 hrs/week outside dorm. His little son has stopped talking in his absence.

- Reposted by Eric Wuesthoff🚨UPDATE: Rümeysa Öztürk has now suffered three separate asthma attacks while in DHS custody. She has not received her required asthma medications—a violation of her fundamental right to medical care. This is cruelty, it is neglect, and it is a damning moral and legal failure.

- This is the rare evidence in the last 3 months (and frankly the past year and a half since students have renewed protests for Palestinian liberation) of a university throwing clear support behind a student and their academic freedom. The bar is in hell, but in this case Tufts is clearing it.
