To my Canadian followers, with the little I have read about Alberta, it feels a bit like a Canadian Texas: an oil-rich area filled with some right-wingers who want to always separate, but never will. Is that fair?

I think anyone voting should be taught that principle.Too many people suffer from battered wife syndrome but we can change it to voter.Voters disillusioned by not being heard and well represented leads to loving abuse.
There are a lot of good people in Alberta, but unfortunately there a lot of yahoos with that familiar right-wing conviction that they're victims of, well, everything. Support for separation is up to 30% until you tell them the actual costs, after which it dwindles to the usual handful of loons.
Less powerful than Texas and less hardcore conservative, but yeah
