- You are far away from a democracy when government affiliates are open about how they work to hinder free elections.
- From 1982-2018, the Republican National Committee was barred from "ballot security measures" because of their record of using state actors to intimidate minority voters. (H/t @rickhasen.bsky.social) www.npr.org/2018/01/09/5...
- Reposted by Elin Lerum BoassonThe Washington Post has laid off least 14 climate journalists, newsroom sources told @sammyroth.bsky.social, effectively decimating one of the most important reporting teams in American climate journalism. A sad, terrifying, enraging day for the planet.

- Reposted by Elin Lerum BoassonIan Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But he’s continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him. “When they say, ‘Why would you be out here?’ How the fuck could I not be out here?” he says. “My nation is under attack."
- Reposted by Elin Lerum BoassonThe murders of Alex Pretti and Renee Good send a terrifying signal to protesters: if you are against us, we can kill you with impunity. This is a classical authoritarian strategy. Increase the costs of opposing the regime to stop people from protesting. 1/2

- Reposted by Elin Lerum BoassonNSF is about to dismantle NCAR at Russell Vought's direction to protect the fossil fuel industry. It's hard to communicate just how much NCAR does, so let's take a look: I've never worked at NCAR, and I've worked with NCAR researchers once ever. What scientific discoveries has NCAR made possible? 👇
- Dismantling of US climate science will lead to human suffering of major proportions. Wathing it play out is painful, but much more severe pain is going to follow.
- The beautiful idea of NCAR, to improve understanding of our planet through a cooperative, shared and open intellectual team effort, is literally what has got me out of bed every morning for nearly two decades. This cannot, CANNOT be allowed to happen. eu.usatoday.com/story/news/p...

- Reposted by Elin Lerum BoassonHoly wow, +3.5 ppm CO₂ last year, up from +2.4 ppm average the past decade, and +0.6 ppm in the 1960s. It gets scarier the closer you look at it. All this is a stress test for the planet, and it's buckling. Two big reasons for the massive increase: wildfires, and the ocean sinks are shutting down.
