- Reposted by Ed Ivimey-Cook🧵1/9 There are 35,000+ fish species, but we have formal social-behaviour classifications for a tiny fraction. Most knowledge lives in the experience of researchers, fishers, divers, aquarists, naturalists, and Indigenous communities, but almost none of it is centralised. So we built ShoalBase.org.
- Reposted by Ed Ivimey-CookIf you want your work to be reproducible, you have to remember that others don't have the insider knowledge you have. You have to be explicit. This morning I was able to recreate a file made by someone else because they explicitly documented their definitions, calculations, and their assumptions. 🫶

- New paper from @marijapurgar.bsky.social out now in @royalsocietypublishing.org Proc B 🙌🙌🙌. We critically evaluated preprint policies from 230 journals in Ecology and Evolution royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/...
- What did we find? 191/230 had publisher- or journal-level policies that allowed preprints. However, less than half had clear instructions and lacked guidance on important preprint factors such as location, timing and linking. In the paper, we provide recommendations for journals and publishers.
- On an Interesting side note, only one journal specifically mentioned @ecoevorxiv.bsky.social despite this being a preprint server designed for Ecology and Evolution.
