I love that story so much.
What I hate most about telling people what I do is that suddenly I have to comfort them! And then they routinely will say how good a person I am in a way that really means I must be defective because they (a normal human) couldn’t do it, it would be just too sad.
Yup. The “you must be such a good person” is the one I struggle with the most because:
1) I’m fine at best
2) If caring for sick and dying children was such a priority in our society I wish we’d make policy that acted like it
Can confirm that you are fine at best.
But I don’t think “you must be such a good person, I couldn’t do that” is about being better than they are. It actually means we are worse because a normal person would have feelings that make the job impossible. It’s really an insult.
