I’ve never seen anybody question the attributed Borderline Personality Disorder that Edward Teach supposedly fits, and it’s only showing to me how erased the other PDs are on the internet, or in general.
When PDs are a spectrum and most of them overlap into a mess of symptoms, I think it would be
i’ve questioned it before! if i’m real looking at ed i see something similar to the CPTSD, ADHD, autism spectrum combo i have going on (which tbf is like the perfect starting point for developing, like, any personality disorder)
i think ppl get the BPD read mainly from his intense emotions and intense reaction to rejection which is interesting bc you would get the same reaction with NPD and other PDs
Truth to that, absolutely. They are two faces of the same coin, but my main criticism was on that very fact, they give anything walking and talking an honorary BPD diagnosis without considering more fitting PDs, which I attributed to the erasure of any others in fandoms and the internet in general.
this is such a big issue in general tbh but i’m sure i don’t have to tell u that lol. finding a therapist w any experience in personality disorders at all is so hard, finding one with experience with anything besides BPD?? like impossible lol
IME i’ve been more likely to be told by a therapist that my parents were narcissists (they weren’t imo, just depressed, shitty, alcoholics) really based just on the fact that they were abusive than i am to be evaluated myself for a PD 🙃 deeply fucked up perspective imo
Feb 3, 2026 21:10but yeah changing social attitudes by talking abt it more is important
i do worry i would say ed is a narcissist and people would start going on abt “narcissistic abuse” which is just a term i hate. it’s like calling what my parents did to me depressed/addict abuse imo lol. why are we stigmatizing the struggles fueling it instead of the abuse part
but i am rambling now whoops
Yes I had the same experience! It’s jarring to see professionals so keen on demonising people with a disorder mind you. I’m hoping you still found a good therapist that helped you work through those trauma.
