- Reposted by Dr Slaughter-AceyOn Thursday, the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to grant them a stay on the Massachusetts vs Kennedy/ APHA vs NIH ruling. This decision will occur on the shadow docket, with no formal hearing.
- As former faculty @umnsph.bsky.social and associated with both (@umnlifecourse.bsky.social & @minnpop.bsky.social) housed within the Institute for Social & Data Innovation, I highly recommend this #populationhealth #postdoc training opportunity! #episky

- Reposted by Dr Slaughter-AceyNearly 800 NIH grants have been terminated so far, including some focused on HIV and AIDS, trans health, and COVID-19, after researchers were told their work was no longer an agency priority. cbsn.ws/3YkDndI

- Reposted by Dr Slaughter-AceyI made a timeline of all the actions in Trump's (almost) first 100 days that have upended science and health. It was staggering to me to see it all in one place, even though I reported on many on these events. www.statnews.com/2025/04/24/t...

- 🧵It’s #BlackMaternalHealthWeek -a time to center Black moms & a need for action. I’m reflecting on what this means in a year when our #NIH grant “Looking Back to Look Forward: Social Environment Across the Lifecourse, Epigenetics, & Birth Outcomes in Black Families” was terminated. #MedSky #EpiSky
- 🧵🪡 Black moms have faced higher #maternalmortality rates than white moms for over a century in the U.S. Our research was about moms and babies & building a future where every mom and baby has the right to thrive—regardless of race, zip code, or income. #LIFE2Study #BlackMaternalHealth #PublicHealth
- Reposted by Dr Slaughter-AceyLast Friday, 1,000 more NIH biomedical research projects were defunded with no notice Here’s a word cloud of canceled grants, based on their titles
- 🧵Yesterday, I received notice that my #NIH grant, on the social environment, lifecourse, epigenetics & #birthoutcomes in Black families, was terminated. This grant represented a critical effort to address the ⬆️ rates of maternal & infant mortality in the US, particularly among Black mothers & babies
- 🪡Despite a ⬇️ in the overall #maternalmortality rate in the US from 32.9 deaths/100,000 live births in 2021 to 18.6 in 2023, rates for Black women remain unduly ⬆️ at 50.3 deaths/100,000 live births. Similarly, the #infantmortality rate for Black infants is 2.4 times higher than that for White infants

Situation is fluid. The only public YES votes are Schumer and Fetterman. They need 7-8 total. KEEP CALLING. Call retiring Senators too!
- @schumer.senate.gov Why on earth are dems going along with this gop bill to fund the gov???? Y’all need to exercise your spins and vote no. #Liberties are worth fighting for! Trump, Elon and the gop are trampling all of it including the dems.

- I hope state DA’s are as quick to file a lawsuit over this racist policy using our education system to assert bigotry and #racism as they were about the feds freezing funds. This is a fight for #equity, #equality, #freedom, and #education @jeffjacksonnc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/02/17/u...

- Reposted by Dr Slaughter-AceyOn changes to #NIH indirect rates, there is a law in place that prohibits NIH from making such changes without the approval of Congress. See Division D, Title II Section 224 of The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law No: 118-47) grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...
- Reposted by Dr Slaughter-Acey1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

- Yes. Call it what it is! The Anti-DEI movement is about purging protected groups and re-segregation in the name of bigotry and power.
- My latest. As journalists and writers, we have a duty to use language that is accurate and describes our current reality. I’m no longer going to talk about DEI/Anti-DEI. Let’s be clear. We are facing racial purges and re-segregation. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
- The way the term #DEI has been wielded and the way the anti-DEI movement is surgically being implemented smells like racial/ethnic/gender/disability/sex discrimination to me. It’s systematic implementation into our govt system being present a perfect example of systematic racism and other isms

- In #academia you encounter a lot of rejection. It’s important to learn how to not give a f*** and still care at the same time so that you keep moving forward and don’t leave a piece of yourself behind.
