- Thanks Franz but I'm sorry to say I don't know the meaning 😅. I'll see if I can track down the original paper, which might explain how the name was formed. I hope Moss' publishes this book because I bet it would be the first kid's book to include a bathynellacean or syncarid!

- I like this idea but a lot of syncarids look so much alike, it'll be interesting to see if people get bored 😅. Mostly line drawings too but let's see if we can create some obscure crustacean connoisseurs 😁

- It's that wonderful time of the year- when we celebrate #Crustmas!

- Days 2-24 can just pack up and go home 😆
- there's an entire superorder (very big category) of crustaceans called Syncarids, and like 99% of them are tiny white eyeless sub-millimeter things living in cavewater, except in Tasmania, where they just casually live on the surface world like regular shrimp. infuriating

- You have lots of the stygobiontic bathynellaceans though and still many new species being found and described 🙂
- Omg this is Christmas for me!
- Thanks to @franzanth.bsky.social for drawing my attention to this wonderful post. Look at those gorgeous, shiny schizomid babies! Many arachnids are great moms 😍

- I hope Aus won't be blocked! "...smaller providers may choose to opt out of Australia entirely. Bluesky blocked Mississippi users after a similar age assurance law passed in the state, citing costs in developing age verification systems and lack of resources." www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

- Still #TeamVelvetworm but I couldn't resist the opportunity to share this little video of turtle #frogs - another wonderfully weird Aus animal. www.abc.net.au/news/science...
- I'm #TeamVelvet too - it's hard to ignore an animal that shoots some at it's prey! but there are lots of fascinating animals on this list, have a look and vote
- Velvet worm was bug of the year for NZ. Let's make sure it sweeps the antipodes! #TeamVelvet #invertebrate

- I'm disappointed there's only one invert but at least they chose an incredible one!
- Adorable #stygofauna art. I love that #InsertAnInvert2024 is still inspiring art
- The latest #InsertAnInvert2024 in 2025 is a minute resident of a park my sister in law's family loves. They'll probably never see it but I think they'll enjoy hearing about it!

- why is it that human-headed mythical creatures always have the bodies of vertebrate animals (i.e. harpy, siren, manticore), why can't we have human-headed oysters or human-headed blowflies
- Hello Scorpion King! Sadly bad acting and cgi but it has so much potential
- I was trying to make a logo for something at work & accidentally created this... the start of a romantic comedy about 2 unlikely lovers - a dugong & a velvetworm. Or perhaps a unique wedding cake topper? 🤣
