- I'm weirdly looking forward to the big snowstorm headed my way this weekend. It's nature's way of saying "stay home and stay cozy". (I know not everyone has the option to do that, but I'm really hoping everyone can stay home and enjoy getting snowed in this weekend.)
- Oh, I really hope these get released as prints. I may not be able to afford all of them, but I clearly need at least one for what's clearly turning into the Studio JJ corner of my office.
- New #StarTrek has arrived! Here's my episode poster for the series premiere of #StarfleetAcademy: "Kids These Days".
- Watched the first two episodes of Starfleet Academy last night, and oh my GOD it was good. Like, I'm really glad Peter didn't get too bothered by my excessive excited flails about everything. Not gonna ramble about it here, I don't wanna spoil anything, but ohh it's so good.
- Following up on the "I used my exercise bike for the first time in years" post from earlier: decided to try out Zwift, a virtual riding app where you can go on rides with other people. Did one ride so far, and daaaaaang that was fun and a hell of a workout. (and a reminder that I'm so out of shape)
- A good thing I did for myself today: dusted off the exercise bike and rode for 10 minutes to make up for not being able to easily go for a walk when working from home. (I hate the lack of sidewalks in my area.) Felt good to get moving, even if just for a little bit.
- Managed to make it through the holidays, though the week between Christmas and New Year's was pretty rough. It was a little harder to deal with the anniversary of Rana's passing without Hannah. Still hanging in there, though, even though the world is a dumpster fire right now.
- so I wrote fan mail to one of my favorite authors and instead of letting it languish as a Word doc on my computer's desktop for months until I chicken out and decide not to send it like every other time I've written fan mail, I actually sent it this time 😱
- To the random person I met at Morgensterns Books yesterday who excitedly chatted with me about tarot cards, tattoos, cats, Tolkein, and Dungeon Crawler Carl: you made my day. ❤️

- Taught my last workshop of the semester yesterday. Taught 25 sessions (including requested sessions and webinars) to a total of 872 people over the course of about 35 hours. (And that's not counting all the session prep!) No wonder I'm so tired. 😵💫
- Went to see a live stage recording of Merrily We Roll Along last night, and it was *so* damn good. I'm glad Rachel suggested we go see it - the music's been stuck in my head all day, and I'm sitting here listening to the soundtrack instead of watching Star Trek. ❤️
- Things I am thankful this year, in no particular order: a thread 1/
- Introduce yourself with four spaceships
- Doing better today than I was on Sunday - rest, good books, and good coffee helped a lot. ❤️☕
- Today's been a little rough so far. Been distracting myself from it by rereading book 2 of @scalzi.com's Interdependency series. Forgot just how much I enjoyed these books - then again, I read them in 2022, which I was barely functional for, so it's almost like I'm reading them for the first time!
- Well, I'm a little over 800 words shy of hitting the 30,000 word mark for the novel I've been working on for #nanowrimo - not going to hit 50k unless a miracle happens, but who knows, I could manage to hit 40k by the end of the month, and that's still impressive.
- I needed today. Did a little bit of cleaning, watched a lot of Star Trek: Deep Space 9, and relaxed. Might write a little bit before bed. This is just what I needed.
- Decided to take tomorrow off and start my Thanksgiving break early. I'm gonna sleep in (or try to, Moira may wake me up early), snuggle some cats, and watch a lot of Star Trek.
- ... is it Thanksgiving break yet? dealing with the early stages of burnout (unable to focus on anything at work) and I'd really rather not end up in full-on burnout if I can help it. doing my best to be gentle on myself for the next few days until I can sign off of work for a week.
- Had a fantastic weekend at the season finale for the LARP that I play in. It's a little bittersweet, too, since it means it's three months until the next game, but that just means there's extra time to brainstorm fun stuff for next season. 😄
- Welp, Will's vet visit itself was largely uneventful - he was well-behaved for the vet and even let the vet and vet tech pick him up. In the car, though, he complained loudly and tried to dig his way out of his crate. Also took his cone off and peed on it and the blanket in his crate. oh buddy.
- Wish me luck, y'all - gotta take Will to the vet here shortly to get some irritation by his eye checked out. He's been a blob of sadness ever since I put the cushy cone on him. Poor little guy. follow these babies here: @moira-and-will.bsky.social
- In other news, got to see the Northern Lights last night with the help of my camera - and I heard they might be even more intense tonight, and visible without camera assistance! Keeping my fingers crossed for that, I love the Northern Lights.
- A little behind for #nanowrimo, but still managing to write every day - just shy of 17k words right now. One thing that's weirdly been helping is to write out a scene by hand, get the ideas on the page that way to start, then flesh it out as I type it up. If it keeps me going, I'll take it.
- Been working on writing a story for #nanowrimo, even though the organization that ran it in the past imploded. It just feels weird to not be writing something in November after doing NaNoWriMo most years since 2002.

- Ooof. My marathon of teaching at least two sessions a week (if not more) since mid-September has finally ended - I now have a week and a half before I have to teach another requested session. 🎉 Thankfully I'm not feeling as wiped out as I would've last year, but still: I could use an extra day off.
- Unexpected heartwarming moment of the day: chatting with the Chewy customer service rep about Will and Moira and how they'll be reunited tomorrow after Moira's second round of giardia isolation. ❤️ That was sweet and unexpected - I was just hoping to get my lost Fortiflora order reshipped!
- Oof. It's been a rough week. Dealing with round 2 of giardia treatment for Moira, and almost done with it - I'm really, *really* hoping this round is the last. I am so done with deep cleaning and doing laundry every day.
- Sharing this here to help boost the signal: my friend Sage's cat Sushi is dealing with some scary medical issues. They could use some help with medical bills, especially since Sushi's back at the vet with a fever and possibly paralyzed back legs. Every little bit helps. gofund.me/4562265e8
