Curious about the history of the manifold/trajectory view of neural activity.
My own first exposure was Gilles Laurent's chapter in "21 Problems in Systems Neuroscience", where he cites odor trajectories in locust AL (2005). This was v inspiring as a biophysics student studying dynamical systems...
Feb 21, 2025 19:11Does anyone have anything earlier that they consider part of this framework? Maybe from motor cortex? Something from asymmetric Hopfield networks or Walter Freemen? Even Hebb's cell assemblies were dynamic, but I don't know if they were ever considered in terms of neural state space "trajectories".
