Oregon State Representative. Union Firefighter. Mom. Likes lifting heavy things, running far, nerdy policy. Personal account.
Resolute sin of empathy practitioner.
- A few years ago I wrote a piece about how Glen Powell actually likes women — and how you male movie stars can be clearly divided into two buckets (like women vs. 'secretly' don't) Mamdani likes *people.* Most politicians don't.
- Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.” Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

- #HillaryClinton isn’t messing around and why #Trump was so complimentary of the Clintons today. Game on…. #SheShed
- When we come together, we remind each other that hope is still possible, even on days that feel heavier than the last. 💙 Healing happens when communities gather, take time to discuss grief, and acknowledge that everyone heals in their own way and at their own pace.
- Gonna ruin my mentions before sitting down to dinner and just say, Mamdani endorsing Hochul just makes good political sense. She's been backing him in all kinds of ways, almost none of his more ambitious agenda is can accomplished without the state government's assistance.

- Today, federal forces deployed heavy waves of chemical munitions impacting a peaceful daytime protest where the vast majority of those present violated no laws, made no threat, and posed no danger to federal forces.
- To those who continue to work for ICE: Resign. To those who control this facility: Leave. Through your use of violence and the trampling of the Constitution, you have lost all legitimacy and replaced it with shame.
- what impressed me most today was that a huge crowd of people who mostly had never been tear gassed managed to retreat without running or trampling each other. under a cloud of gas that was not moving (zero wind), people held onto each other and walked blind down a street packed tight as sardines

- I've seen videos of the indiscriminate use of tear gas on a large crowd that was clearly peaceful and filled with Portlanders of all ages, and well off the macadam facility. We banned tear gas for a reason. I join Councilor Green in calling for enforcement of our laws.
- It's hard to overstate how ell-organized the portland march that got gassed was... organizers made the crowd promise to be peaceful, said the march would slow in front of the ICE building but not stop, that we would stick to one chant (ICE Out). They did absolutely everything right and got gassed.

- that little girl has every right to be on the sidewalk of her own damn city. she lives here. i don't want to hear any shit about how she shouldn't have been down there. she is a citizen of portland oregon and she is entitled to use of our public sidewalks at all times
- I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

- The anti-ICE/CBP rally in Chicago's Daley Plaza has grown significantly in just the last half hour. The crowd is spilling out into street; I'd say there's over a thousand people here at this point.

View full threadThe march in Chicago has continued on past Trump Tower and is turning back south into downtown. The snow is coming down hard now. As it does, the column chants, "say it once and say it twice, we do not fuck with ICE"
- It's near-white out conditions in Chicago as the snow comes down, and tonight's anti-ICE/CBP rally is wrapping up in front of city hall. But not before the crowd bounces and chants, "I believe that we will win!"

- just a reminder: if fire hydrants near where you live are buried in snow after this week’s storms, it’s a mitzvah (and a gooooood workout!) to dig out around that hydrant so fire crews can get to it faster if need be.
