I say *pretend* and *claim* because the last 10yrs since then should clarify that this was never what any of them wanted. They want the IRI gone. Obama undermined this by understanding that it wasn't really in the interests of the US to repeat Iraq. A lot of these people want to try Iraq again.

Plenty of criticisms of Obama which are completely legitimate but the last few years have really elucidated just how batshit a lot of US policy can really get.
