- Thought I'd do a bit of Fallow Deer Watching on Cannock Chase tonight. I've muted the biting cold gale 😂 Plenty of deer around. More videos in thread. @mammalsociety.bsky.social @thermal4birding.bsky.social
- The weather picked up enough for a visit to RSPB Middleton Lakes this morning. Water levels were very high. Paths are doable in waterproof boots, but wellies are better. Managed to add Bittern and Cettis Warbler to the year list which now stands at 106. @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social
- Nipped over to Whitemoor Haye this afternoon for very distant views of the Slavonian Grebe, but slightly better ones of the two drake Red-Crested Pochards. @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social
- It was all about farmland today in Norfolk. Scanning 5,000 Pinkfeet over 6 huge fields on a very cold, frosty morning in a vain search for 3 Tundra Bean Geese 😂 (bird scarers didn't help) Plenty of other distractions though 😊 @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social
- Another good day in Norfolk, if wet and windy. RN Grebe at Burnham, along with Brent and P-F Geese. Titchwell highlights: Slav Grebe 3 close Water Rails (2 fighting for quite a while) Tawny Owl roosting 14 Marsh Harriers arriving simultaneously to roost. @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social
- Great day in Norfolk even though I traipsed miles through the marshes in a biting wind looking (in vain) for the Black-Winged Kite. The Eastern Black Redstart showed very well in Sheringham as did the Cranes at Hickling Broad. @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social
- The next West Midland Bird Club (Stafford Branch) winter talk is on Tuesday 13th January at Walton Village Hall Stafford at 7.30 pm. Refreshments are provided, and all are welcome - members and non-members. £3 on the door, what a bargain! @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social
- In Norfolk for a few days. WWT Welney was brass monkeys this morning, it was slightly warmer, if wetter, at RSPB Snettisham. Great to get Tree Sparrow early for the year list along with the all the geese and swans. Welney was overrun with Marsh Harriers 😊 @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social
- Happy New Year Blue Sky Friends! I hope 2026 is a good one for each of us 😊 🎉🥂🍾
- Spent a fascinating morning with a local ringer in Staffordshire who was locating and ringing Jack Snipe as part of an ongoing census. 16 Common Snipe and 9 Jack Snipe seen, three of which were caught and ringed. Never seen them this close before. @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social

- Many birders visited Foryd Bay for the Bufflehead last week. Have you considered joining the Welsh Ornithological Society @birdsinwales.bsky.social whose remit is to support bird conservation and research in Wales? As a small society we consistently punch well above our weight with.... 1/2
- Thanks for your company this year Bluesky friends 😊 Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! (Old Skool me 😂)
- Had a good day out at WWT Slimbridge with @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social Stafford Branch yesterday. Species included Firecrest, Marsh Harrier, Little Stint, Bewick's Swan, White-Fronted, Barnacle and Pink-Footed Geese, plus a lone Ross's Goose. It was wet and windy but good fun.
- Pretty major windchill in a 'stiff' breeze on the Great Orme today. The Shore Lark put in an appearance now and then. @birdsinwales.bsky.social #birdingwales
- 41 Whooper Swans (along with a mixed flock of Greylag and Canada Geese) at Pont Croesor today. @birdsinwales.bsky.social #birdingwales
- Pretty average pic from my bridge camera of Jupiter and it's 4 largest moons tonight. In fairness, there's a thin veil of cloud and it was handheld 😉
- Birding in the mountains between Bala and Trawsfynydd. The streams and rivers were so high! Highlight was a pair of Peregrines. @birdsinwales.bsky.social #birdingwales
- 16 Whooper Swans on the floods at Pont Croesor today. @birdsinwales.bsky.social @rspbcymru.bsky.social #birdingwales
- A good morning watching the Fallow Deer rut on Cannock Chase. The bucks were constantly scenting the air for does in heat and pestered likely candidates relentlessly. Fights breaking out sporadically between rival bucks. Videos in thread @staffswildlife.bsky.social @mammalsociety.bsky.social
- Enjoying a slightly damp (but improving) view of the bay for what promises to be a great Criccieth Community Fireworks Display at Dylan's Seafood Restaurant tonight.
- Just a reminder that the next @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social Stafford Branch talk is on Tuesday. ALL ARE WELCOME Colin McShane, winner of the @btobirds.bsky.social Bernard Tucker Medal, will be giving a fascinating talk on how modern technologies are helping in the study of Jack Snipe. See below:
- Two Whooper Swans looking like the first of this year's returnees to the fields between Garreg and Pont Croesor today. @birdsinwales.bsky.social #birdingwales
- More views of the White-Rumped Sandpiper at Maltraeth Pool on Anglesey this afternoon. With Redshank for scale 🤣 @birdsinwales.bsky.social #birdingwales
- Great views of the White-Rumped Sandpiper at Maltraeth Pool this afternoon. It was mobile but showed well when in view. Video in comments.... @birdsinwales.bsky.social #birdingwales
- Wigeon looking dapper at Maltraeth Marsh. @birdsinwales.bsky.social #birdingwales
- Pintail, that most elegant of ducks at Maltraeth Pool. @birdsinwales.bsky.social #birdingwales
- Four Egyptian Geese and a Whooper Swan @rspbcymru.bsky.social Cors Ddyga. @birdsinwales.bsky.social #birdingwales
