Tell us a bit about yourself
- Inject the ending of 28 Years Later into my VEINS (rage virus style)
- A good writer is someone for whom writing is hard
- I’m a democratic socialist at heart, and if Mamdani wasn’t such an anti-Israel economic dunce who wanted to raise minimum wage to $30, I’d probably be happy.
- I know this is an overused refrain, but “Shush girl, shut your lips, do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips” would truly never fly today. Every part of that line. #FathersDay
- This is such horseshit. Again, Israel is held to a standard that no other country at war is held to, and certainly not the literal terrorists they are fighting that people rabidly and dogmatically defend.
- Unpopular opinion but the Apple Mail AI summaries are…really good? I just asked it to summarize a long, three-paragraph highly technical work correspondence with a lot of intricate and nuanced details…and it nailed it!
- Honestly just such an incredible picture
- Doi. Draw a bigger circle, quit being so puritanical about speech, get off the internet, violate orthodoxy, BE REAL! The most effective piece of liberal communication of the past decade was from Hawk Newsome, president of BLM in New York. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
- Google made the internet accessible and great, and now they’ve ruined it. Truly tragic how corporatization took something creative and weird and democratic and bastardized it in the name of standardization.
- watched Point Break over the weekend & it is genuinely thrilling to see practical set pieces & real stunt people doing dangerous things. We feel scared for the characters because we know the actors were in actual danger. It just feels different than the CG slop that CBM have served the past 15 years
- I’m a democrat Jew and we deserve to lose the support of the Jewish people, a coalition who has been historically among the left’s most ardent supporters. The way the dem establishment has kowtowed to online crazies since 10/7 at the expense of their base sucks.
- God damn this world for making me agree with National Review
- Do people living on $10 a year (the homeless, say) think the same about those making $100k a year as the latter feels about those making $1B?
- If this man is not the next democratic nominee for president, the party is truly brainless. The heir apparent is Gavin Newsom, and we all know how well that system goes.
- No one is allowed in the cockpit if there’s something wrong with them. So, if you’re here, you must be fine.
- Why are people holding mics in every online video now?
- It was always gonna lead to this. Fuck the perpetrators of this movement, everyone who has spread propaganda, the college kids who deem it fashionable, and the democrats who co-sign this for political expediency.
- So now we’re finally confronted with what “From the River to the Sea” always meant. Free Palestine doesn’t care about Palestine or Gazans, they care about vilifying Zionists.
- Every iteration of AI, tedium-eliminating tech, utilitarian transactions, commodified and performative time - all this moves us one step further away from our humanity and our creativity and our curiosity, and thus, our generosity and empathy. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/19/s...
- In the trans debate, one side thinks this is the civil rights issue of our time and they don’t want to have been on the wrong side of history, and the other side thinks they’re preventing eugenics by another name. So I get it.
- It is impossible to completely avoid or plan for risk in complex systems
- Yeah. Rare Trump W. www.theatlantic.com/internationa...
- The corporatization/monetization of social media is the main reason for its evolution from uplifting and useful and fun information to…well, slop.
- Other than Game of Thrones, has any TV show lost the plot and squandered its fandom allegiance harder than the Duffer Bros and (not surprisingly) Shawn Levy. MBB is married. How tf is this show can stick a landing about kids??
- Me seeing the new Pope is Leo
- I don’t love sing-throughs, but if any movie deserves the 4K treatment, it is 100% Cherbourg.
- Every episode of The Rehearsal is one of the strangest, most surreal, profound episodes of television I’ve ever seen.
- Seeeeeeeen. Co-sign co-sign co-sign. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
- JK Rowling’s protection of women and women’s spaces will stand the test of time.
- Never underestimate the amount of overcorrection humans will overcorrect.
- I know it’s smug, winking, precious, moralizing, repetitive, but damn I’m a sucker for Sorkinese
- I understand that the Gen Z obsession with everything being gay is a revolt against the overly hetero culture of their elders, and a way to signal progressive thinking, but it’s honestly quite awful. Someone’s sexuality is not a fandom.
- DJT: When money is your only motivator and you think it must be for others too. He just fundamentally does not comprehend why the promise of fortune would not be a deal-maker. Some people & countries have...principles? A consistent political philosophy?
- There's discovering/elucidating/distributing new knowledge, and then there's commenting on said knowledge. I feel like media used to be the former but is increasingly the latter. And then there's this www.cjr.org/analysis/stu...
- If Trump was spiritual you could say "at least he has morals." If Trump was competent you could say "at least he's good at his job." If Trump was thoughtful, you could say "at least he's smart." But he is none of those things! Never has the descriptor "no redeeming qualities" been more apt.
- I think “woke” folks need to ask themselves when was the last time they evaluated something just based on the merits, and it didn’t cross their mind that the idea originated from an old white guy. I would guess years. Sorry but in its extreme forms it kills curious thought.
- Yawn
- Don’t get me wrong, it’s funny. Or at least, the jokes that ripple from the bit are funny. But so many of this show’s premises are built on the “lol so random” late-aughts humor template.
- Kind of incredible honestly. Extreme trans rights orthodoxy is indistinguishable from boilerplate misogyny.
- I kind of pride myself in being able to have civil conversations centered on disagreement with people I would otherwise find very objectionable. I have found that being curious about the person instead of debating the topic is key. Extreme example: I want to learn about the Nazi, not argue nazism.
- One of my problems w progressivism nowadays is that so much of it is smug condescension among those who feel similarly, and very little engaging, arguing, persuading, helping. What good does it do vulnerable communities to never engage with those harming them, and instead stay in your walled garden?
- The Pitt is so good. You think you’d get cabin fever being stuck in real time in 1 location, but it actually allows you to track arcs, progress & regressions in a way that’s very true to life. Like Adolescence, but w/o an overt message/theme. Just highly engrossing emotional entertaining television!
- Big day for annoying people who get easily distracted by the layout of text blocks and have to reread the same paragraph thrice (me) webkit.org/blog/16547/b...
- Normal person. Normal response to disagreement. Reasonable, rational, not incendiary or edgelord at all. I’m sure they would’ve wished similar on Yahya Sinwar. Horseshoe theory continues to be demonstrated with astounding frequency.
- Normal economy
