- Finally others are pointing this out; I've long been disillusioned with mutual aid as conceived of online because it is not rooted in community and thus not "mutual". We need to build systems of mutual support, not just engaging in acts of charity and calling it praxis

- trying out a new name
- Frieren: Beyond Journey's End asks an important question: what if the fantasy genre was good?
- The hill I will die on is that many TTRPG creators don't hire editors and it shows. Please, at least a proofreader.
- So I got home from The Boy & The Heron about an hour ago, and god is this movie so good. Potentially a top 10 all-timer for me. Stunning visuals, captivating world, subtly political, and powerful themes of grief, acceptance, and creation
- "Ghibli inspired TTRPG" except it's specifically inspired by Grave of the Fireflies
- 5 years later and I'm still listening to tracks from the Far Cry 5 soundtrack. While half of it is literally conservative propaganda Lord knows I'm singing "Keep Your Rifle By Your Side" at the top of my lungs
- Newest post on my blog: retrospective on a game I made a few years back! I still love the core idea of the design for this game, and given the holidays, thought I would take a look at it, see what I would do differently, and why I made the decisions I did! open.substack.com/pub/jaywrite...

- oh no I'm reading Boal again, time to prepare my 7 part blog series where I interrogate TTRPGs from the perspective of Theatre of the Oppressed which will most certainly be excessively pretentious but potentially illuminating in my own relation to the medium
- My offer still stands; I will become the personal TTRPG designer of any rich patron willing to pay off my student loans and my room and board a la Medici style patronage. My email and dms are open for any such inquiries
- it is 2010, I am listening to synth-heavy post-hardcore covers of pop songs it is 2023, I am listening to synth-heavy post-hardcore covers of pop songs
- So I'm currently in the midst of a binge of Breaking Bad, it's my first time watching it, and I know it's a stale take in the year of our Lord 2023 but FUCK WALTER WHITE all my homies HATE WALTER WHITE
- Last week, my friends & I played our first session ever of "Alice is Missing", so I thought I would do a review/play report! AIM is a unique experience unlike anything I've had in TTRPGs, and it has reinforced my belief about the room for innovation in the medium. open.substack.com/pub/jaywrite...
- Friendly reminder that "Hey Ya!" by OutKast exists and that you should go listen to it right now
- The push & pull between wanting people to see my work and thus feeling a need to SEO optimize vs only wanting to mention Dungeons & Dragons when I explicitly mean JUST that game
- Hey can y'all stop coming out with cool games for like 5 minutes? My wallet can't handle it
- Just played my first game of Alice is Missing. God its so good. Spoilers for my next review lmfao
- In my latest, I review "Beecher's Bibles" by Noora Rose. Using the Panic Engine, you play through the Bleeding Kansas era as Free-Staters, hoping to ensure the new state is one free of slavery. Violence, stress, and the toll it weighs on us is front and center. open.substack.com/pub/jaywrite...
- One thing I wonder about is designing around how much someone may be new to roleplaying, and how much you can trust a new player to jump in with. I'm working on a game where players take turns GMing different scenes, and at the moment I am leaving details sparse. 1/
- New review coming tomorrow, hoping folks will find it interesting. First review for a game I haven't actually *played* yet, but still think it's worth talking about.
- I've started taking ADD meds, my power will soon be unstoppable. Going to finish a first draft of the game I'm working on, going to post to my blog, maybe stop talking about starting a podcast and actually start working on it??? Possibilities are endless* *If I can overcome my procrsstination
- Needing a job in academia ASAP so I can have unfettered access to works discussing Augusto Boal and whether his processes can be applied to TTRPGs
- Better Call Saul is hilarious when you haven't watched Breaking Bad because they'll do a slow pan, dramatic reveal and it's a Mexican fast food restaurant sign
- I am once again asking my brain to work so I can get some work done please
- TikTok updated it's algorithm, time to spend the next three days clicking "not interested" on every TikTok Shop and unfunny white cishet comedy post
- What are the alternatives to the Kickstarter model for funding small, indie TTRPGs? What do people actually need to get their projects completed? Is KS purely just to ensure a profit? I wonder what models could be developed to minimize/remove the need for profit
- I really wish I liked solo ttrpgs more. Seems like a really interesting space, I just find it hard to focus on the games that are more journaling focused. I need a bit more gameification to keep me focused (or I need to talk to a doc about ADD meds again lol)
- The overwhelming desire to say "fuck it" and drop everything to make a nonprofit TTRPG publishing company vs the desire to have money to live
- The spectre of Cities: Skylines 2 looms over any hope of productivity I may have in the coming months
- Wonderin whether my Substack is worth it, or if I should just swap over to a Tumblr. I could still do long-form posts, & it feels like there's more opportunity for community engagement & discussion, whereas on Substack it doesn't feel as encouraged? Seems better for newsletters than, like, analysis
- Just watched the new TMNT movie and, wow, gotta say, Spiderverse and its consequences have been a blessing for animation. Very fun, and that art style? Works perfectly for the story. Highly recommend it if ya haven't seen it
- Game design in isolation is hard; I constantly feel the need to bounce ideas off people to help formulate my own thoughts. Sometimes saying something out loud to someone is a great way to realize your idea makes no sense
- For October, I decided to write up an old adventure of mine & share it with folks! "A Haunting in Apochevo" is a system-neutral 2-page horror adventure about a small town plagued with a new haunt; will the players quell the spirits & discover the secrets below? jaywrites.itch.io/a-haunting-i...
